Jaguars willing to trade back...?

From CBS Sports...

Quote:

If the Jaguars want, they'll be selecting a top-five talent at the NFL draft for the fifth consecutive season. Currently positioned fifth overall, the Jaguars haven't been on the outside of the top five in a draft since 2011, when they selected Blaine Gabbert 10th overall.

There appears to be a chance the Jaguars won't make their scheduled top-five appearance this season, however, because according to general manager Dave Caldwell, he'd be comfortable trading out of his current position and into the early teens.

"I don't think that would be a surprise," Caldwell said, per The Florida Times-Union. "Right now, I would say somewhere in the early teens. I probably wouldn't want to move below there."

Mods, please edit the title to spell "trade."  UGH!!  Proofreading is fundamental...

No, if I edit the title, you'll never learn your lesson young man.

This wouldn't shock me. IMO, this year the greatest concentration of talent will be in the second and third rounds. If we can trade back in the teens and pick up a guy like Lawson, VH3, Alexander, or Dodd and then also pick up extra picks in the second or third rounds it'll be a win win.

I think he has Shaq Lawson on the brain. That's what my gut is telling me.

Agreed. Though I'd be very hard pressed to pass up Jack of available. However if we trade down, we'd likely pick up another second, and we could roll the dice on Jaylon Smith with one of them

I wonder if it means that Caldwell isn't as comfortable picking fifth overall as he indicated the other day, especially if the first four ends up being a combination of Bosa, Jack, Ramsey, and Tunsil.

I'd approve a trade down, especially if Bosa were to fall or one of the other rushers.

If all of the QBS fall to our spot, I could see a team like the Rams jumping up to snag one.

If that happens surely there is a team willing to move up for the kid from NDSU.

And if we're stuck at 5 in that situation and Caldwell likes him enough... pick Lawson. Doesn't matter if he is viewed as a better value at 10 than 5... If you like a guy, you pick the guy. And if Jack and Ramsey are gone... I'd rather not have Buckner or VH3 and I don't think the team is leaning that way anyhow...

Trading back to 10 and getting an extra second would be awesome. Especially if the move got us Lawson in the first and then maybe Jaylon Smith and Ryan Kelly in the second... Or Artie Burns and Scooby Wright.... the possibilities are endless....

Arizona could move up too. Doubt they have the future behind Palmer now... and he can't have more than a season or two left, eh?

SF is a wild card as well.....

Shaq Lawson and mackensie Alexander in round 1. I'd cry happy tears.

Arizona would be too far a drop, but San Fran wouldnt. Baalke is an insane man, maybe we could nab a first and second in a trade down.

If the two QBs are available it'll be more likely

I dont buy it, unless Tunsil/Ramsey/Jack/Bosa go 1-4.

Even if that were to happen, why would they trade with us? We aren't selecting a QB and the team behind us isnt drafting a QB. If a team really loved one of Goff or Wentz, they would be on the phone with Baltimore to jump SF.

It doesn't mean he's gonna do it.

It means if the right trade comes along, just like in any year, he would think about trading down.

Id still love to get another 2 round pick...Id be all for trading back. Plus who knows it might not be for a QB? Some times teams just fall in love with a player and will do whatever it takes to draft them.

He's just letting the world know he is open to options.  Smart man.

If Wentz is gone before 5, it would also increase the value and demand for Goff.

Depends what our asking price is.

Could make a lot more sense trading with the Cowboys or Ravens.

You could add an extra solid piece on defense with an extra 2nd rounder and not drop off too much with 1st rounder. Would be worth considering for sure

First off, well played, Dragon Fury.  Fits in well with your signature pic, too.  I like it!

I think the intended recipient of this message, while at face value, appears to be Los Angeles, is actually San Francisco.

If Caldwell has five players in mind, SF is the only team he can deal down with and still be assured of at least one of those guys being on the board-if two QBs go in the top 5 (assuming, of course the guys currently bandied about as being top 5 picks are the same ones he has).

If he deals down to pick seven, Jack, Bosa, Ramsey, Lawson could theoretically all be in play one way or another.

1.  Tacks-Tunsil

2.  Cleveland-Goff

3. San Diego-Ramsey

4. Dallas-Bosa

5. San Francisco-Wentz

6. Baltimore-Stanley

7.  Jacksonville-Jack or Lawson

I like Jack. He would complete the LB group and we now how one of the best LB group in the NFL. If Jack and Ramsey are both off the board I would look at a trade down for Floyd or maybe Lawson.
