This is just a poll to gauge the opinion of the message board on taking a top TE prospect at #4.

If they actually picked Howard I'd give him a chance considering TE is such a huge need. I just doubt it happens because I don't see him worth being the highest drafted TE ever. Also, should he be the pick, my expectations will be real high. I'm expecting him to his part as a blocker, but moreover I want a dominating downfield target much like the Titans have with Delanie Walker or like the Panthers have with Olsen.

Oh come on, i've been on this wagon since day 1 too, and you KNOW that we've been through so much worse. If you survived Tyson Alualu, a punter in the 3rd round, and Derrick Harvey, you can survive a TE at 4. I don't like it either, but at least he looks like a good TE.

Is there a position we could take top 5 where the expectation wouldn't be pro bowl caliber within 3 years?

 

I just don't understand how this imaginary wall exists where for a position like TE you are allowed to take studs that turn out to be good picks like Davis and Winslow at 6...but a whopping 2 picks earlier is OMG NO WAY HORRIBLE VALUE. Or the same for safety where using pick 5 to take studs like Sean Taylor or Eric Berry works out great...but again one whopping pick this time OMG NO WAY HORRIBLE VALUE.

 

Especially when the people saying this are often espousing RB top 5 which is at best equally bad position value and also littered with a ton of misses, whereas the elite TE and S picks have all been good.

If we draft him at 4, you can guarantee that Caldwell and Coughlin (he would have to "sign off" on the pick) would be on the fast track out of the NFL.

I'd give it a chance.  I think at the #4 pick, you need to pick the very best player who can get on the field, in other words, at a spot where he won't wind up sitting on the bench, and Howard would no doubt be a starter. 

 

We have to take the guy who is most likely to make the Pro Bowl.   If Howard is that good, then by all means, take him.

Why would the FO even think about drafting a TE at #4 if we don't have a QB to pass to him?  While I believe OJ Howard has extreme talent and the need for a productive TE is very high, it makes no sense to draft him if we still are unsure about whether Bortles will be able to become a serviceable QB in this league.  Give him a RB and an OLine and let's see how he does.  Draft a TE in the 2-5 range.
