I intend to take this tweet and blow it so far out of proportion that Skip Bayless learns my name. Quick! To the overreaction-copter!

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Quote:Irvin had his best year under Gus Bradley with 8 sacks

I know Irvin is from ATL and Quinn his other former coach is there but we can out bid ATL and Jax isnt that far anyways, we are def in play

Statistically, yes. But 2012 (Irvin's only season under Bradley) was his rookie year when he was still mostly used as 3rd down pass rusher. Overall he become a better and more complete player under Quinn when he was moved to LB. I think 2014 was his best season so far.

I think ATL and JAC are favourites to sign him because of known connections with Bradley/Quinn and system fit. Atlanta is his hometown though so I think he's more likely to sign there if their offer is close to what he'll get in JAC or elsewhere. And to be fair I also think he prefers playing for Quinn over Bradley. But I also wouldn't rule out OAK (our former LB coach Ken Norton Jr. is a DC there now and they have a lot of cap space too) or some 3-4 teams that would use him more as a pass rusher.

Thanks for the insight.

How do you think he became a more complete player?

What were his deficiencies as a rookie, and how did he correct them?

I don't think the Bucs really care.

Every offseason they splash on players that they end up cutting a season or two afterwards.

Just a guess though...

I have mixed feelings about reports like this.

On the one hand, if there are offers being made, it's good to know on some level the Jaguars are competitive.

However, I don't want anything that could have the Jaguars be hit with tampering charges and associated loss of draft picks.

Furthermore, until it is official, I don't want to get my hopes up.

Yeah they want to be nowhere near potenial tampering allegations. It will look sketchy if Irvin signs on the first day of free agency with the Jags.

Well, this isn't necessarily true.  The NFL is allowing a 2-3 day legal tampering period to take place before the first official day of free agency, which indicates on some level, parameters of deals can be discussed.

Up until this year, the NFL allowed for no negotiations to happen before the start of free agency, although most believe negotiations began before free agency anyway.

I don't think it'll be much different in practice this year, either.

Unless Caldwell outright comes out to the media and says that we want Irvin, we're not going to be hit with any sort of tampering charge. Every offseason, there's plenty of these types of stories and no one has gotten in any sort of trouble for tampering because of them.

There's a couple days of legal tampering before free agency officially opens, so it wouldn't look sketchy at all. Anyways, there's always a ton of players who are signed within the first hour of free agency.

Well worth it.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Had no idea. Sign on day one, Mr. Irvin.

It happens.  I know just last year, the NFL investigated teams for tampering.  I know years ago, Carolina was docked a draft pick for tampering in the hiring of Dom Capers.

In 2008, the 49ers lost a draft pick and was forced to exchange picks with the Bears for tampering.

Just last offseason, the Jets were fined for tampering with Revis (fortunately for them, they weren't docked a draft pick).

Sanctions for tampering are not unheard of by any stretch.

Fair enough, I didn't recall the San Francisco/Chicago one.

The Revis one was because Woody Johnson stupidly opened his mouth, which is why I brought up it only happening with us if Dave spoke to the media about it.

To be perfectly honest, I had completely forgotten about the 49ers one too.

Here's another one I forgot about...from 2011.

The NFL came out last year to discourage tampering.

I just figured it would be just the Jaguars luck to be docked a pick for tampering just when it appears we have the nucleus to improve.
