For a relatively new GM the man has been incredible. He's build this offense first like he said he would. He tore everything down and has us with the most cap space while we already have a playoff caliber offense. I have no doubt he can fix this defense.

Normally you need a high level of success to be called the best new GM.  We have not seen the success happen yet or ever.

I can see where Caldwell might think it would be much harder to sign free agents if the coach were replaced or under the gun, hence the extension. Not saying that I agree.
