"Now that we’re at that point in time where we can compete and compete for championships I have no issue with signing guys that are 30, 31 and 32."

Is this going to be the new "it's built"? Smile

I can't wait to see how this plays out here on the boards.

But now that it's been reiterated by him, my votes go for Mario Williams, and Haloti Ngata.

Tamba Hali could be a good stop-gate till Fowler take over the reigns.

Ngata? You think he still has some juice? I would love Mario.

I will say this about Hali.  Even though I think he is finished, he is known for giving relentless effort and having a strong work ethic.  He would be a good role model/mentor for Fowler.

Not entirely sure, but I think linemen-especially interior offensive and defensive linemen, can be reasonably effective into their 30s.

A lot of older people vacation and retire in Florida... Just ask Hugh Douglass and Aaron Ross.

Now the guys who play in space...the skill guys...those are the ones who concern me the most when they hit 30, because they are more dependent on speed and burst and quickness than interior linemen.

If I could be convinced that Weddle could give a year or two to us without having lost any of the speed that made him so effective in San Diego, then I would be in favor of signing him.

Tamba Hali would be awesome. He still has a year or two in the tank.

If a guy can upgrade a position for one or two years while a rookie develops or they wait another year to draft a guy early - so be it.

There are only 4 or 5 positions of dire need at this point instead of the larger numbers we've been sorely accustomed to. So - I hope they find help wherever they can and make a real push in 2016.

As  general rule, I agree with this sentiment about signing older free agents.

If you must engage in the over 30 market, do so sparingly.

However, 30 somethings can help from time to time.

I don't think they'll be much complaining if they sign guys like Mario Williams, Eric Weddle, or even Demarcus Ware.
