What are your thoughts about taking a mid to late round flyer on this guy? Was stuck behind Fowler for most of his career at UF and is extremely raw but has some very intriguing physical attributes.

He is 6'6" 240 lbs with a 7'2" wingspan and most likely is going to destroy a lot of the workouts at the combine. He did get kicked off the UF football team in December so there are some character concerns. His length and speed would be a great combination as a developmental LEO to go behind Fowler and whatever FA/high draft pick we get.

Here is a good article on McCalister and the combine...

And a highlight reel for the heck of it...

I can see him having a Bobby McCray or Danielle Hunter-like impact. Thoughts?

Looks like he has one effective rush move, but he does use his hands pretty well.

Is it the windmill?

I would take him in rounds 6-7 as a project pass rusher. He looks to have good traits, but needs a lot of coaching.

7th round just like how we drafted McCray

No, McCalister can actually bend, which the "edge rusher bend fan club" should love.

Bend and Bubble baby. All day long. If he's simply as good as McCray was, sign em up!

Didn't watch Florida all that much, but every time I did watch he was making an impact. Looks like he's a couple features away from even being 2nd/3rd round pick, IMO.

He is 7th round material. He is light in the butt and slow off the line. He will get bullied in the run game.

I noticed he lines up on both ends so that's good. His tackling form is horrible. You can't rag doll tackle at the next level.

Overall he wasn't as polished as McCray. But I'd take a pick on him in the 7th.

Sorry to bump an old thread but found this quote from Florida's pro day but Alex McCalister.

"Going up there to Jacksonville, that's a beautiful organization. Then I've got Dante up there to help me out my first year. It would be a good look for me."

Still think this may be our guy, assuming we don't find an edge rusher in the 1st two rounds of the draft.

Use late round pick on him. Bring Blackmon in to counsel him on how to stay off drugs.

Take him in the 7th. Bobby McCray 2.0
