Good bye bill of rights. It was fun while it lasted.

Also, the Republican senate should block any appointments by Obama. However, we all know what side the Republican senate is on...

I guess it all depends on whether the Senate can block a nomination until the next election.

And if that refusal to confirm has political ramifications into the presidential election.  It is important considering that the next president is viewed to be appointing 2 more to the court.  If a Dem wins in November that would mean 3 appointees, officially shifting the court in a massive way.

I just want a Repub to win to tilt the Supreme Court back to the Conservative side. There were already talks that 1-2 slots could open during the next Presedential term.

True colors showing. Defend the Constitution above all..   until this happens and a representative of your party ISN'T sitting in the White House.   Now you want the Senate to block Obama's ability to name a replacement.  Scalia's body isn't even cold yet and you want to take a dump on his legacy.  Scalia would demand the sitting president name the new justice.  The Constitution requires it.

True patriots here. If I could give you all American flag lapel pins, I would.

It also requires the advice and consent of the senate. Checks and balances.

Less than a day and both sides--even on this message board--are making this a "battle lines" issue. All of you screw off and give the man a couple of days to be put to rest before peeing on his Supreme Court seat.

Regardless of what you think of the man's views and opinions (both written and spoken), Justice Scalia was one of the greatest Constitutional scholars this country has ever known. I thank him for his service to the Supreme Court and the nation. I didn't always agree with what he had to say, but if you were to actually read his opinions and dissents, you'd see that his words came from a man who let his views on the Constitution be his guide, not someone who let partisan politics make decisions for him.

Yes we should all wait to see what the guy who has pissed on the constitution his entire term nominates. A president that has openly said he sees the constitution as a restriction on the way he thinks government should work, yea I want the Senate to block him. Then just pray like hell we don't have a socialist, trump or Clinton picking the next 3 justices.

That's fine I appreciate what he did and will miss his level headed constitutional stands. Doesn't change the reality either Obama or any of the front runners picking his replacement is a really scary situation.
