It's happening were already working on the training to test and repair the v2v sensors these things use to communicate. In 10 years were expecting it to be mandatory older cars be retrofitted with v2v sensors to remain registered.

Acura is working on eliminating the steering wheel all together with drive by wire technogy, they already have steering assist and lane assit tech in this year's models. Mercedes has a full automated semi truck the dot is scheduling for US highways by 2020. Chevy had a super cruise feature that autodrives on highways. Fully electronic brakes are more common on modern cars and everything is equiped with GPS navigation. One study was claiming by 2023 something like 30% of the cars on the highway will be fully automated.

Scary stuff I'll never trust it.
