Economy

The stock market did very well today despite the announced rate hike.  That shows a lot of confidence in the economy and where it's going.  Hiking interest rates will be better for savers and a bit more difficult for spenders.

Meh... laying off 1000 managers is probably not a bad thing for the company, especially with the new hire of the CEO.  CSX stock might actually be a good buy right now.

uh, ok .... so unemployment is now a good thing?  thanks, because previously I was hearing that underemployment was a bad thing but I really didn't know that while underemployment was bad, being totally out of employment was good.

I'm not saying that at all.  CSX has been having problems.  The problem (at least partially) is management at the company.  The company is fixing the problem.  The laid off managers are getting assistance in the form of compensation and help finding new employment.  If any of the managers are any good at what they do, they will find other employment.

Sounds like a lot of them were given the option to take a non-managerial position as opposed to being laid off.. At least there's an option for some to be retained if they wish..

That's pretty poor management. Have a horribly unmotivated workforce if it's full of demoted managers.

Too many chiefs? CSX may have seen this as an issue and wanted to scale down the management pool. It blows for the people getting put out but you have to keep your business afloat. CSX here in WV has been struggling badly since the downturn in demand for coal.

Yeah I don't think morale would be all that great with a bunch of demoted workers still in the office.

You do realize the economy primarily revolves around spenders, right?

No big deal.  A slight correction was expected.

When a newsman asked J.P. Morgan for a stock market prediction, his response was, "It will fluctuate."

Short term, it bounces up and down unpredictably.  Long term it goes up.

LOL.  As of 3:25PM the DOW is up ~9.40 points, and the S&P 500 is up ~5.96.

That's very true.  You can't just look at it on a daily or even a weekly basis unless you are "day trading".  Money can be made by investing in certain parts (sectors) of the market even during a down turn of the overall market.

If this is what you classify as "bad", you are really reaching here.
