Astronaut Edgar Mitchell, 6th man on moon, dies in Florida

Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, who became the sixth man on the moon when he and Alan Shepard helped NASA recover from Apollo 13's "successful failure" and later devoted his life to exploring the mind, physics and unexplained phenomena such as psychics and aliens, has died in Florida. He was 85.

Edgar Mitchell was as unconventional of the stereotypical astronaut as one could get, yet fulfilled manned space travel's greatest mission to date by walking on the moon. Each one of these Apollo astronauts is a living legacy to the American can-do spirit and to the international arena of space exploration. Sadly they will all be gone soon. But a new breed of Mars explorers will take their place and I hope to be able to witness it in my lifetime. I mean, I should since I'm only, ahem, 39...or so.

“You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a ***  "

I thought you had a to be at least a Four Star in order to get into politics...

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
