Trump vs Cruz

#1
(This post was last modified: 01-29-2016, 10:52 AM by The Real Marty.)

To sum it up, these are two completely separate revolts.   Cruz is an old fashioned small government conservative.   Trump is all over the map, part liberal, part protectionist, anti-immigrant.

Cruz supporters want to roll back government.   Abolish things.

Trump supporters want the government to protect them.  Protect them from foreign competition and from immigrants.  This is why he has pledged not to touch Social Security or Medicare- because the little guys, poor white guys, who are his supporters, rely on those government programs.

Yes, he is absolutely a statist.   He says, I will protect you, from Mexicans, from Muslims, and from foreign competition, especially China.  And I will not touch Social Security or Medicare.  Then he holds up a Bible and tells the evangelicals how religious he is.

Who does this appeal to? Poor white people who think they need to be protected from the rest of the world.   People who are afraid of change, who see their way of life slipping away and want a man on a white horse to come in and create Fortress America.   Fewer Mexicans.  Fewer Muslims.  Fewer Chinese imports.  It's nothing but fear-mongering.   "I will protect you."

Trump is a buffoon.

Cruz is unelectable.

I can't think of a single candidate I would vote for if the vote were today.

I don't care what you call it.  I don't want a single one of them as our future POTUS.

Who do you like the most? I'm not asking who you're going to vote for, I'm asking who is closest to your views?

You're going to have a tough time getting me to support any "career politician" running for office.

Scarecrow, do you lean left or right?

I don't particularly care to define political views as left or right anymore.

If I had to I'd say I'm slightly right on a majority of my views.

Egomaniacal bully who can be baited into a war quicker than Marty McFly getting called "chicken" vs. an antagonistic hyperconservative who wants to roll back every progressive gain since FDR.

Tough choice, but I'm going with anybody else.

This is so chock full of irony no further comment is necessary.

There a bunch that are concurrent with FDR that should go too.
