Free Agent Kickers

#1

I actually like Myers and think he could be good next year if he learns to nail those PATs this offseason. That said, the team simply has to give him some competition for the spot. With that in mind, here are some FA Kickers to consider ranked in terms of FG percentage from last season...

1. Josh Brown, 36, Giants - 30 of 32 for 94%, 44 of 45 on PATs, long of 53 (made $1.4 mil last year)

2. Adam Vinatieri, 43, Colts - 25 of 27 for 93%, 32 of 35 on PATs, long of 55 (made $2.8 mil last year)

3. Phil Dawson, 40, 49ers - 24 of 27 for 89%, 20 of 21 on PATs, long of 54 (made $4.1 mil last year)

4. Mason Crosby, 31, Packers - 24 of 28 for 86%, 36 of 36 on PATs, long of 56 (made $3.6 mil last year)

5. Nick Novak, 34, Texans - 18 of 21 for 86%, 29 of 31 on PATs, long of 51 (signed to minimum contract)

6. Justin Tucker, 26, Ravens - 33 of 40 for 83%, 29 of 29 on PATs, long of 52 (made $2.4 mil last year)

For comparison sake...

Jason Myers, 24, Jaguars - 26 of 30 for 87%, 32 of 39 on PATs, long of 58 (signed to minimum contract)

If we don't roll out Myers... which I think we still will.

I'd like Tucker or Brown.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

I can't see Philly holding onto Caleb Sturgis so maybe Dave will bring the local kid in to compete with Jason.

If he had hit the kick against the colts, and made 5 more PATs, people wou'ld be calling him the MVP on ST.

No way Baltimore lets Tucker walk

Brown's possible, but I don't think te Giants let him go. Vinatieri only makes if we have a punter tha kicks off. Anger doesn't.

I don't see Crosby being allowed to walk, and the Ravens would sooner fire Harbaugh than lose Tucker. Novak might come loose, and if he does, he makes sense. 24-of-38 only makes sense of you want him to shank two game winners and cost us the division by himself.

Pittsburgh isn't gonna keep Suisham and Boswell next year so one of them could be available too

Probably not until deep into training camp, if not the cut to 53, though. Competition for 24-of-38 will have to come earlier.

If Boswell hits the market somehow, I'd be all for grabbing him.

Gus is in win now mode. No sure he wants another year of rookie kicker growing pains.

Really good kickers are hard to find. That said, I think Crosby, Brown, and Tucker will probably have jobs in their most recent uniforms. I can't see the Colts giving up on Vinatieri, either. Dude is money in the bank, even at his age.

I'd bring in a Novak or a Dawson to give Myers a little push. He's gonna be okay, though. He righted the ship there at the end, and he just needs to get rid of the yips on XP's. A little competition is good for the soul, though.

Myers slumped there for a bit on PAT's but he seemed to rectify that. He has a huge leg and as long as he stays on the path he finished the season with than I am all about keeping him.
