Jaguars also expected to sign DT Stefan Charles (6-5/302) today. Spent last year with Detroit.

I hope not. More likely it's just a little camp insurance behind Miller and Jones considering they will need a 3rd string for preseason. In other words, their NT position now features... 1. Roy M III 2. Abry and 3. Stefan ...I don't expect him to actually make the final roster.

Bullseye, last March,  the Lions signed Stefan Charles to 1 year contract with incentives after the Bills decided not to tender him as a RFA because of their salary cap situation at the time and their depth at DT.

My expectations were pretty high for Charles after watching him playing closely in 2014 when the Bills came back to upset the Lions.

Overall,  I was disappointed with the results from Charles in 2016,  though in fairness to him he was playing in a different scheme for the 3rd straight season and he did improve prior to a season ending knee injury in the MNF loss at Dallas.

The knee injury looked like a major one.  Until proven otherwise,  that's the # 1 concern with Charles.  It wouldn't shock me if he started training camp on the PUP list.  Hopefully,  the injury was less serious than it looked.

Charles is powerful but he needs to continue to work on his techniques.  Including staying low consistently.   Being that he played his college ball in Canada,  he's not as developed as most players that completed 4 NFL seasons.  I wish him well in Jax!

Stefan Charles was the Lions # 5 DT when the regular season opened.  IMO, he barely made the roster.

During the regular season,  4 pure DTs were kept on the Game Day roster the vast majority of games,  if not all of the games.

When all 5 DTs were relatively healthy,   Haloti Ngata and A'Shawn Robinson were always active.   How Tyrunn Walker,  Khyri Thornton, and Stefan Charles did in the week leading up to a given game determined which two that the coaches decided would be on the 46 man Game Day roster.   Thornton was a RFA but signed 2 year contract a few days ago.  Walker remains an UFA.

Thanks, D6.

So in a nutshell, he could be a powerful run plugger if healthy and plays low?

My pleasure.

Under that scenario,  the potential would be there for that to happen.

For what it's worth,  he looked at least 320 pounds last season, not the 302 I have seen him listed on some sites.   Naturally BIG MAN!

I don't know why, but I'm not too fond of this pick up. It only seems that he wanted for his size and not his abilities. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Risk should be low.  And he has shown flashes.  Even if Stefan Charles doesn't make 53 man opening day Jags roster, if he raises level of competition in training camp and the pre-season, that by itself might be worth the investment made yesterday.
