Tom Coughlin's Offseason Plan Part 2 (Defense)

#1

First I'd like to apologise for being inactive as of late and not making part 2 sooner, i have been busy, i apologise. Anyway lets keep this short, lets begin.

The 4th overall pick...

I'd first like to state that i think the Jaguars will either selection Leonard Fournette or Solomon Thomas with the 4th overall pick. My original prediction was either Fournette or Allen but after the combine and the moves so far made this offseason i think Solomon Thomas or Leonard Fournette will be a Jaguar next season. Due to me having Fournette as a maybe on the offense forum i will put Thomas on the defense forum. Obviously we most likely won't get both so you can see and discuss which player you would rather have. Anyway lets get into it...

Defensive Line:

I think the Jacksonville Jaguars could have an absolutely frightening defensive line next year for opposing offenses. Tom Coughlin in past teams; especially with New York, has had a stacked defensive line with great depth and that will be the same for the Jaguars this season. I will place players in the "specific positions" but expect there to be a lot of rotation.

Left Defensive End:

Yannick Ngakoue -  Will compete with Dante for the starting spot, i think it will be a tough competition that could see either one coming out on top either way its a good thing, competition is always a good thing and will only improve the players and the defense overall. Both players are very talented and will probably rotate a lot anyway so this competition will be a good thing. I predict Yannick will come out on top, hes a great player as he showed last year with amazing work ethic. Either way I am looking forward to the competition and anything can happen, its a good thing overall.

Dante Fowler Jr - Read above.

Chris Smith - Will have to compete to keep a spot on the roster

UDFA - Competition and Depth

Right Defensive End:

Calais Campbell - Campbell will be all over the defensive line, great player and great leader his presence makes this D-Line more disciplined and greater.

Solomon Thomas - Thomas is an explosive defender with great strength, quickness and a huge motor. Has good hands and feed to be and size, all athletic traits, skill and talent to be a future all pro. Solomon Thomas has the potential to be the best defender in this draft class. I think he will be used all over the defensive line but primarily at defensive end. Another piece added to this defensive line with the potential to be a superstar.

Jonathan Woodard - Unfortunately went down last year with injury, will come back and compete and will probably be used for depth.

UDFA - Competition and Depth

Defensive Tackle:

Malik Jackson - Like Campbell he will also be used all over the defensive line, great player and a good veteran presence. Another great piece for this defensive line.

Abry Jones - Abry Jones has gotten better every season earning him a decent contract this season, he will be another great piece on this defensive line.

Roy Miller - Unfortunately got injured last season, will come in camp to compete and will be evaluated from there. Good run stopper and leader, we will have to wait and see, but unfortunately i think he will probably get cut to let the younger guys get more game time to develop.

Sheldon Day - Improved towards the end of the season, good player with potential and good depth for this defensive line.

Michael Bennett - Needs to start improving, to be honest i haven't seen him really do much, lets see if he turns it around, either way decent depth.

Jordan Hill - Competition and Depth

Louis Nix - Competition and Depth

UDFA - Competition and Depth

Linebackers:

ROLB:

Telvin Smith - One of the best players on this defense, hopefully will get locked up to a long term extension soon. Great player.

Sean Porter - Competition and Depth

UDFA - Competition and Depth

MLB:

Paul Pozluzny - Good veteran linebacker especially against the run, too often gets exposed in coverage, will probably be a two down linebacker.

Hayes Pullard - Good depth and competition

LOLB:

Myles Jack - Honestly I don't really know what the Jags will do exactly with Jack but will probably rotate alot between OLB and MLB. Good player with great potential, wasn't 100 percent last season i think due to injury but should be almost 100 percent now, lets see if he shows us why he was taken in the second round. Good player.

Dan Skuta - Competition and Depth

UDFA - Competition and Depth

Cornerback:

Jalen Ramsey - Amazing athlete and player, should be seeing this guy locking up recievers for many years to come.

A.J. Bouye - I really like this free agent pick up and we have now two lock down corner backs in the secondary, very exciting stuff.

Aaron Colvin - Talented Corner, will most likely play Nickle, good player.

Doran Grant - Competition and Depth

Josh Johnson - Competition and Depth

UDFA or late round pick - Competition and Depth

Free Safety:

Tashaun Gipson - Good free safety and will hopefully improve this season with better guys around him and better coaching.

Peyton Thompson - Competition and Depth

UDFA - Competition and Depth

Strong Safety:

Barry Church - Probably my favourite free agent pickup. Great player and leader, good and defending the run and pass.

James Sample - Competition and Depth

UDFA - Competition and Depth

Sorry if this seems a bit rushed, im quite busy and I wanted to get this made before the draft because then... there isn't much to predict... haha. I understand that there may not be many rookie names on here but i think the Jags will be drafting a lot of Offensive Lineman in the middle late rounds. My predictions from the Offense forum probably have changed a bit. Either way, let me know what you guys think. I would like to see some of your predictions. Cheers.

Yeah that is somewhat true but I think he was at 85% last season, but yes your right, Gus Bradley being an idiot is another reason.

That's my first round prediction too. It's either going to be a RB (probably Fournette), or a pass rusher like Thomas.

When did we sign Nix? Surprised I missed that, was a big fan of him coming out.

If he can correct his attitude he has big potential as a backup to Jones/ rotation guys.

FA was defensive based and the 2017 NFL Draft will be offensive based.

Time Will Tell.
