Jags should lock Bortles up now

Well considering that the Jags need to spend some money, Allen Hurns seems like a great starting point to start spending.

A first and a third would be hard to turn down when you have Lee and Walters and Greene.

Actually, I'm looking to free agents and noticed that the top tender now is just a first round pick. Apparently the 1st and 3rd round option is no longer part of the CBA. So the choice would be get a 1st round pick or match the offer to keep Hurns. I'm thinking the wiser option is to just extend him this offseason.

I can tell it's been a while since I was keeping tight tabs of the salary cap, etc. The last year teams were able to get a first and third round pick for a RFA was 2006.

Did we win the division or even come in 2nd? No, it's not like he is going anywhere right now anyway. There is no telling how he will play next year. I am afraid the same way.

If you can get Hurns on a Team friendly front loaded deal this year, I think you do it. No need to risk someone hitting us with some poison pill contract or w/e. I mean I guess you could cheap it out, but we are already below the spending floor average for the last 4 year right? Why not do a guy early to set up future extension to be done with ease.

Reminds me of how the Eagles used to sign guys they liked to extensions early under Reid. I didn't feel like they got burned very often at all with that system.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

He's playing for peanuts right now. The risk to him is too great not to sign any reasonable offer. He'll be under a new contract by October of 2016 if not much sooner. He's one play away from a career ending injury and never having landed a decent contract. He has to be thinking that.
