Blake Bortles and Allen Robinson were both nominated for AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Bortles threw for 322 yards and five touchdowns, while Robinson caught three touchdowns and 153 yards. Yeah, a strong case can be made that you are in fact correct, BB and AROB could've/should've gotten the nod.


However, sometimes it has alot more to do with the performance other than numbers posted (not all the time though).


Marquee matchup in a critical game (NY vs NY),, catching a critical TD for the win,, and posting solid numbers.

Jags vs Titans,, a game that most people could care less about,, both teams "perceived" to be absolute dregs,, and the players posting terrific numbers lost anyway (not that it was their fault).


I can understand it.


note- I have a strong feeling that Jags players are going to start getting nods for these types of "awards" not too far off in the future. When they start winning more frequently and getting more attention, Bortles/ARob/Hurns/Yeldon/Thomas will have some of these "player of the week" nods.

If the Jaguars put up the numbers against a better team, then perhaps the voting might have gone the other way.  Putting up those numbers against a (then 2-9) Titans teams means nothing.

3 vs. 5 passing TDs and 1 vs. 0 interceptions. Who do you think had the better stats? ;LOL

 

The rushing touchdown was 87 yards and assisted by our defense being too slow.

 

BTW Marcus Mariota is a nominee for Rookie of the Week.

The Panthers put up 41 points on the NFL's worst defense, but everyone talks about how good their offense is because they are undefeated. So I don't buy the "because it was Tennessee" argument.

Can't forget the fact that BB botched the recovery of the snap that went over his head.  He was the 1st person to the ball and let it get away.

I think the same logic was probably applied here as was the case with Bortles putting up impressive stats in a loss.  He did it against the Jaguars defense.  That kind of waters down the accomplishment.

The media goes nuts over passing touchdowns. Usually rushing touchdowns by quarterbacks are an afterthought. The only reason they talked about Mariota's rushing score was he went 87 yards.

The Panthers are undefeated... so...  logic states that an undefeated team who puts up a huge amount of points against pretty much any opponent is going to win.  However, the key difference is an "undefeated team" and a team that is 4-7 (at the time) playing against a 2-9 (at the time) team.

I know people make a big deal about records, but in this case ours was more impressive because New Orleans owns the #32 defense. People should pay more attention to that than the win/loss records.
