Demetrius McCray

From BCC:

Quote:Just looking ahead, here are some of the players that NEED to be replaced for this Defense to take the next step going into next season.

Andre Branch

Chris Clemons

Dwayne Gratz

Josh Evans

Demetrius McCray.

Branch and Clemons are the worst DE duo in the NFL, and there isn't much arguing that anymore. The Jaguars need to make a major improvement in this area, and I think Vinny Curry/Oliver Vernon are 2 possible solutions. They were up against BACKUP OL and still got dominated. Gratz is simply the worst DB on the team. McCray has regressed and it is hard to argue for him to keep a spot on the 53 next year. Evans is an OK backup, but he simply is not an NFL starter.

All defense and yep, I agree on all of them. Expect this defense to be overhauled like the offense has been.

Why are you specifically pointing out McCray? Are you a "for" or an "against"?

At least I'm not the only one saying he's regressed anymore.

I've been a fan of McCray since last year. Feel free to look up my posts in previous threads on him.

Regressing from a top 5 CB which he was in not much. To say he won't be in the 53 roster is ridiculous. I still genuinly think he's a 2nd best outside corner as I see Colvin getting beaten to much for big plays. He does however make quality big plays that's why I'd like him in the nickel

He looked bad. Not very physical and doesn't turn his hips the way he did last year

He's not physical enough and doesn't play aggressively.

He's regressed? How could you tell? He's barely on the field. When he does make it on, it's in the middle of a game to replace a struggling Gratz. Do you know how hard it is for a corner to come in mid-game after not getting starter reps for the season in practice? It's setting him up to struggle.

There is no reason why he should not be the starter over Bubblegum. Let him have the reps in practice and let's see what he's really got. We know what Bubblegum brings to the table.

Give him a chance to play this year before you make judgement...

I stopped reading the OP when it quoted an article from bcc.

The point is he is better than Gratz so why is he starting over McCray?

As I've stated- he's better than Gratz. But he has regressed - and for all you folks that keep telling me he hasn't seen the field:

I'm not making this stuff up when I say I saw him play poorly early in the season, guys and girls.

LB (includes LEO/edge rushers), FS and CB depth will no doubt be addressed in the offseason.

So in two games he's played significant snaps?  Two out of eleven games.

He's better than Gratz and he should be playing over him.  Yet he continues to ride the pine and come in when Gratz fails.  I'm not trying to say that McCray is Revis or Sherman.  I'm not trying to say he's an All-Pro.  He should not be seeing mop up duty snaps.  He should be on the field more than Gratz.

I'm sorry but Gus doesn't seem to have a great eye for defensive talent.  At least not when it comes to the secondary.

I'm also tired of the but he benched House and now House is playing better!

House was not playing bad enough to be benched in the first place.  He's no worse than our 2nd most talented CB.  He should never have hit the bench of the reason was due to CB play.

Now if it was disciplinary for something we aren't aware of then I would get it.
