Looking at Veteran's Day - Vets share your photo and story

#1

Here is a photo of me, probably during my second cruise (judging by my rank and the color of my shirt at the time) around 1993 on board USS America.  I served nearly 10 years before getting out and began working as a government contractor.  What is telling about me is that even at that time, prior to the internet being a major "thing" is the computer monitor in the background.

Back then the internet was virtually non-existent but you connected to certain services like AOL through phone modems. Screeching, clicking, buzzing sounds. I remember thinking how cool it was to be able to make airline reservations by connecting directly to their reservation systems.

I am not a Vet, but I am the son and grandson of Vets. My grandfather was a Vet of WWI and I remember seeing his toes at a young age where his big toes were curved over the next toe. He told me, when he was drafted into the Army he stood in line to get his uniform and they just handed him a pair of boots. The boots were too small for his feet so his toes grew that way. Now I don't know if that was true or not, it seems plausible, but then I thought; why not trade with someone who had smaller feet with larger boots? Maybe that was not an option.

This is me walking out to my first flight during flight school.  Boy was I nervous and excited at the same time.  Over a decade in, and still going strong.

I've got one somewhere of me standing in front of the throttleman board of the Enterprise around here somewhere...
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

I wish I still had pictures from my time in the Army. I've moved so many times over the years things got lost. I was in back in the early 90's. If I'd stayed in I would have retired by now. Oh well.
