This Week in the AFC South-Week 9
|
The division of dysfunction continues to roll on the road to nowhere (queue Talking Heads).
After a week that featured three way bickering between the owner, GM and coach, the Colts fired offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton following Monday Night's loss to Carolina. I wonder how Andrew Luck feels about this, since Hamilton was brought in from Stanford to help accommodate Luck, who played under him at Stanford. Meanwhile in Tennessee, a team that seemingly avoided the dysfunction that was evident in Houston and Indy last week, fired Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt, who managed a record with Tennessee that was WORSE than Bradley's record here. As his interim replacement, the tacks named former Jaguars' HC Mike Mularkey, who announced some changes in offensive philosophy in the hopes of developing rookie QB Marcus Mariota. My Jaguars are coming off the bye week after beating the Bills in London. They brought in some kickers to see about replacing Myers, but they kept Myers around at least another week. The Texans, on the other hand, are going into their bye week. On to the picks Tennessee (1-6) at New Orleans (4-4)-Things do not bode well this week for the tacks. They have replaced Whisenhunt with Mularkey and there are no shortage of Jaguars fans who would contend they managed to downgrade. As mentioned earlier, Mularkey indicated they will change philosophy to help develop Mariota, and he spouted the same spiel about developing Kordell Stewart as he did when he was here. Mariota is still coming off an injury and his availability/effectiveness is unknown at this point. The tacks are going up against a Saints team whose offense has seemingly found its mojo, after Drew Brees threw SEVEN (7) TDs last week in the 52-49 win against the Giants. Saints win 31-16. Jaguars (2-5) at New York Jets (4-3) -Can the Jaguars, who beat the Bills before last week's bye, keep any momentum going and stack two wins together against the Jets? There are arguments on both sides. For: The Jets top two QBs are injured, and while they are listed as day to day, there is a good chance neither Fitzpatrick nor Geno Smith will start for them, leaving rookie signal caller Bryce Petty behind C, which may not be Nick Mangold. Against: The Jets have a very good defense that, at face value, appears to be a bad matchup for the Jaguars' offense. The Jets rank 3rd and total defense, 1st against the run and 8th against the pass. Oddly enough, despite having a good defensive line, they only have registered 11 sacks for the year, and have shown signs of vulnerability the past couple of weeks having lost to the Pats and Raiders. With 2 weeks to prepare, can the Jaguars exploit them? I'm betting not. NY Jets 23-Jaguars 17 Denver (7-0) at Indy (3-5) Denver is boasting a defense that is first in the league in points allowed, that throttled Aaron freaking Rodgers last week. They have a secondary that has several pick 6s over this year, and they have a pass rush that can get after opposing QBs. They go against a reeling Colts' offense that just fired its offensive coordinator, that can't run the ball, and whose young star QB Andrew Luck, has been struggling mightily-possibly with some broken ribs). Indy also can't pass protect well. Denver wins 27-17. Last week: 1-1 Overall: 15-10. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

If this Division is anything, it's entertaining. I won't repeat Bullseye's comments above but he was writin' pretty much what I was thinkin'!
Tennessee @ New Orleans - I don't think New Orleans Offense is quite that good, and Tennessee isn't all that bad but the Saints aren't exactly a squad that I would want to face right now, especially while Mularkey is in the process of completely handcuffing Mariota so that he learns to never ever throw any pass that has the slightest chance of ever being intercepted. And also makes him learn a 400 page playbook. Of course, Mariota probably won't even play in this game so this may be a moot point. Anyway, New Orleans wins this one in the dome. Jacksonville @ New York (J) - I think a lot of Todd Bowles and what he has going on with Gang Green. I've never been a Jets fan so it's really doesn't mean a lot to me but it seems as if he is very organized and has his squad all working towards the same goal. While their Offense is vulnerable with questions along the Offensive Line, the Quarterback, and a seeming dearth of Pass Catchers, I think they lean heavily on Chris Ivory and salt this one away. However, I do reserve the right to come back and change my mind on this because it really is a winnable game for Gus and Co. Denver @ Indianapolis - Nope. Sorry Indy fans. I don't care if Luck's entire body is shot up with Cortisone for this game, I just don't see how he's beating that Denver Defense. Wade Phillips is a heck of a Defensive coach and he's coming for ya. Not to mention the fact that Peyton is probably out for blood in order to sustain his cyborgian body. Denver wins this one going away and just might mean the death of Pagano in the aftermath. Last week: 1 - 1 Overall: 15 - 10
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

I love the Jaguars, and I want to believe this is the week they finally show they've turned the corner, but I'm going to pick against them until they prove it or they are playing someone on the level of EJ Manuel as they were two weeks ago.

Question: How would you want the Jaguars to attack this Jets defense?
I would want the team to pass, attacking Cromartie and Skrine and staying away from Revis. Screens to Yeldon would be nice, especially since we haven't seen that all year. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
