Poz to OTTO?

#1

Prisco brought up the notion of starting Jack at MLB with Poz moving to OTTO. Poz would come out in the nickel which might be like half the downs, but he is getting older. I never gave this much thought before, but Poz has always had pass rush ability that he rarely gets a chance to use. As skilled as he is, if you tell him to learn and play OTTO, I'm betting he'd do it to perfection. Being such a great tackler already, the 4-3 SAM part of the OTTO role is second nature to him, and I have no doubt he'd quickly pick up the 3-4 LOLB part of the OTTO role.

As I understand it the scheme is only being tweaked, so really we do even if they don't want to say the word.

As soon as Gus was fired he scrapped the "Otto" position last year. We're going to have a traditional SAM LB

Dave said the scheme would be similar, just without the labels.

He will play SAM which would benefit him and the Jags. He can still be on the field on 1st and 2nd downs and have Jack finally on the field. OTTO/ Strong side backer all the same, but a more traditional look like stated above. I like it and look forward to this change.

Funny, it has been suggested before (on these boards and elsewhere) but the answer was always "no, he's a middle linebacker".

Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all.

No more OTTO! That's all I've got to say about all those acronym positions.

Dozens of us board regulars have been talking about Poz playing strong side and Jack playing Mike since before Jack was even drafted, so it's no surprise to hear it being floated around elsewhere.  Especially after Caldwell's comments about getting Jack on the field more.

Poz actually played SAM at times this year.

With the team likely in nickel for over 60% of the snaps, this would limit Poz's snaps.  I think this would be of assistance for an aging LB.

I put my Slotto in the Grotto beside Otto and he asked What'simatto with'chu?"

Seattle South 2014! Remember that? bahah.

If we are getting a regular SAM position (the best named position ever btw), get hightower and move jack.

Calling Deshawn Watson a future bust since 3/19/17. If I eat crow, I will keep this in here and proclaim JackCity a genius.

Yes.  Kudos to those of you who suggested it.  I was one who poo poohed the idea.  To me, it's a way of keeping him around another year and to get Jack on the field, not because he is a natural SAM.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Absolutely. That should also increase his efficiency. He's been progressively slower, though still playing at a high level.

Success is a journey, not a destination.  Go all out Mighty Jaguars.

Like Dave or Tom said. Myles jack has to earn playing time

Sure, but they're going to give it to him and make him screw up horribly to lose it.
