This Week in the AFC South-Week 7
|
Last week, I finally put it all together and picked to my potential, which led to a 3-0 record.
Of course, that meant picking against my Jaguars, who never seem to play up to their potential. ![]() ![]() ![]() Let's see if I can repeat last week's success, and let's hope the Jaguars can elevate their level of play. This week's games... Buffalo (3-3) at Jacksonville (1-5) -this is the third game in what is the annual Jaguars game in London. After being destroyed the first two years, the Jaguars face a reeling Buffalo team coming off a loss to the Bengals at home. The Bills pass rush has fallen dramatically off of last year's sack pace. The talented defense has only notched 9 sacks thus far this year. On top of this, the Bills have a slew of injuries. WRs Percy Harvin, Sammy Watkins, Marcus Easley and Marquise Goodwin are all banged up and uncertain against the Jaguars. In addition, RT Seantrel Henderson, DT Kyle Williams, QB Tyrod Taylor, RB Karlos Williams are also all banged up and their availability is uncertain. But fear not, Bills fans. There is nothing that is ailing your team that cannot be cured by a game against the Jaguars. The Bills defensive line and pass rushers are begging Ryan to turn them loose. I'm betting they will until the Jaguars prove they can win against seemingly vulnerable teams. Jacksonville can't run the ball or stop the run. They can't mount a pass rush, and can't create turnovers. Special teams are atrocious and the fans have almost completely lost faith in Bradley. Bills win 27-13. New Orleans (2-4) at Indianapolis (3-3) -Before the season, this looked like it could be a shootout between two top QBs and two explosive offenses. Unfortunately, both teams have staggered early into the season. The Saints are coming off a long week, beating Atlanta last Thursday Night. The defense has not stopped many teams, and Payton and defensive coordinator Ryan were seen in a shouting match on the sidelines recently. Meanwhile, the Colts are fresh off their prime time Sunday night loss, which featured one of the worst play calls ever when Pagano and the Colts tried this funky punt formation without adequate blocking. But I think Indy has enough defense to slow down the Saints, who are down to their 3rd team LT, while the Saints don't have enough defense to slow down Indy, despite the extra time to prepare. Indy wins 34-20. Houston (2-4) at Miami (2-3) -Houston is fresh off of their road homecoming win over my Jaguars, scoring 21 points in the 4th quarter to win going away, and they continue their Florida road trip in Miami to face the Dolphins, who played up to their potential in throttling the Titans. I think Houston will get more of a game from Watt, but I think Miami will continue to play for their new coach. Miami wins 23-14. Atlanta (5-1) at Tennessee (1-4) -Tennessee is mad after a blowout loss at home to Miami, which featured what is alleged to be a dirty hit on rookie QB Marcus Mariota by DE Cameron Wake. Mariota has a grade 2 MCL sprain and is questionable for the game. If he plays, he likely will have limited mobility. Despite the loss last Thursday to the Saints, Atlanta has played good football overall this year. They won't be as sloppy this week as they were last week. Atlanta wins 28-10. Last week: 3-0 Overall: 11-8 Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Okay, just working through the tough times folks. Here we go:
Buffalo @ Jacksonville, and I use the term '@' loosely - Buffalo is awfully banged up all over their roster and this is the first time that they have had to travel across the Atlantic as far as I know. They probably have superior talent than Jacksonville but this is a game that, while I can't see Gus and Co winning it, I can see Rex losing it for sure. I swear this isn't a homer pick, it's what I honestly believe, Jacksonville wins in London late. New Orleans @ Indianapolis - I don't know which squad is more broken at this point. New Orleans is having coaches screaming at one another on the sidelines and Indianapolis looks like they are trying new ways to look stupid. I really have no idea which one wins this game but New Orleans looks like they can exploit the Indianapolis Defense a bit more. I'll go with Cool Brees and Co. on this one. Houston @ Miami - Houston ain't that good but neither is Miami. I do think however that Miami's Defense is good enough. Miami wins another one for the Oklahoma drill. Atlanta @ Tennessee - Atlanta wins this one going away even though Tennessee's Defense has looked rather decent of late. Sorry about your knee Marcus. As an aside, these were icky games to pick. Just sayin'. Last week: 2 - 1 Overall: 10 - 9
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

2-1 last week.
9-6 overall Buffalo over Jax Miami over Houston N'awlins over Indy Atlanta over Tennessee
We learned in the Sunday School who made the sun shine through. I know who made the moonshine too, back where I come from.
Last week 1-2
Overall 9-10 Buffalo over Jacksonville Miami over Houston - Note, I have a funny feeling that this game might go the other way. New Orleans over Indianapolis - This is a game where the Colts get exposed for not being as good as people think. Atlanta over Tennessee There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. Quote:How did you manage to pick 21 games? Hmmm. Most likely I mathed wrong. I do that a lot. EDIT: Okay, so I went back and researched all of my picks. For those that care I had the following records from week to week: 1) 1 - 3 2) 2 - 2 (3 - 5) 3) 2 - 1 (5 - 6) 4) 1 - 1 (6 - 7) 5) 2 - 1 (8 - 8) 6) 2 - 1 (10 - 9) So I have picked 19 games total and gotten 10 correct.

Quote:Hmmm. Most likely I mathed wrong. I do that a lot. I couldn't find wk 1, but now that bullseye found it, I'll work on a new and accurate standings. For my picks 1-2 last week 11-8 overall Bills over Jaguars, but I think it will be close. Colts over Saints again close, went with hometeam. Dolphins over Texans probably close too. Falcons over Titans not going to be close lol. Quote:I couldn't find wk 1, but now that bullseye found it, I'll work on a new and accurate standings. If you want, I'll go over your numbers for you to help you make sure you get it right.

I totally thought I posted last week, but I definitely picked the Jaguars, Dolphins and Patriots going 2-1. You'll have to take my word for it, although I can offer proof via Facebook if someone is in the AFC Rivals group. I'm going to update my status here as if I did post if there are no objections (just put an asterisk by my name and say added week 6). So...
Last week 2-1 Overall 9-10 Bills over Jaguars Falcons over Titans Saints over Colts Dolphins over Texans In other words, every AFC S team loses this week.

Quote: astrorenegade thanks for doing that. Do you have it on a spreadsheet by chance? After all, it's just a small side game. Bullseye had a great idea and it's become kind of a "regular" thing. By the way, I was just thinking about how I didn't pick a single AFCS team this week. I have no problem adding wk6 in. It was bugging me that there was no wk6 for you because you have been doing it from week 1. Jagibelieve I don't have a spreadsheet, just a txt file. But I've been thinking of putting it in a Google doc. Quote:I picked every AFCS team to lose this week. Is that better? Much better... same here.
