Kyle Shanahan a run game wizard

#1

He made a run game in Cleveland headlined by Isaiah Crowell and Terrance Williams with Johnny Manziel/Bryan Hoyer at QB look respectable. This year Freeman is the best running back and in the league and even Coleman looks really good when he's given touches. Shanahan is also basically the head coach of the offense in Atlanta. I would like to see what he could do here. He is young and creative and also seems to be very open minded. Yes he would be a first time head coach technically but he basically has full control of the offense in Atlanta while Quinn handles the defense and he has been around the league all his life. He's proven he can produce without his dad.

He's one of the brightest offensive minds in football, I'm a big fan of Kyle Shanahan.

Funny how people bashed me for wanting Kyle Shanahan as our OC last year and now the same people want him as our HC

Who bashed you? Kyle Shanahan is recognized by many as one of the best OC's in the league.

What puzzles me is the Jaguars offensive line (from a personnel standpoint) is clearly a unit that would be more effective in a ZBS, we have a really athletic line with the likes of Joeckel, Wiz, Beadles, Parnell, and a healthy Linder, none of those guys are classic "maulers". It makes no sense to run a gap scheme with these linemen, we haven't had any success running the ball so I'm not sure why they won't make a change. The ZBS isn't complicated.

With that said it wouldn't surprise me if David Caldwell is eyeing Kyle Shanahan as Gus's replacement, he is obvious ties to Atlanta and I think KS would be a perfect fit here. Our offensive personnel is perfect for what KS does, pick large chunks of yards in the run  game (look what his system has done to Devonte Freeman) setting up play-action shots downfield to A-Rob, Julius Thomas, and hopefully a healthy Marqise Lee.

I don't remember but a few posters did. A lot of people on this board are just now realizing that now

Yeah. I don't think any other team that will be in the market for a HC would have as perfect a personnel group for what Shanahan wants to do than we will, and we will also have the most cap space and a top 3-5 pick to go with a franchise QB and another top 3 pick that didn't play the year before.

A line of Joeckel, Cann, Mack, Linder, and Parnell is perfect for Shanahan's stretch run ZBS and Yeldon is the perfect 3-down back to go in the system. Yeldon to me has potential to be as good in that system as Freeman is, as I see Yeldon as a taller version of a Freeman-type back.

We have a QB who excels in downhill play action passes with every tool in the tool box to do what Shanahan wants and will be in his 3rd year. We have a number 1 in Robinson who is already a premier deep and redzone threat in the league at age 22 and in his second year. Hurns is a great number 2 who is a threat at all levels of the field. Julius Thomas one of the best pass catching tight ends in the league. Not to mention guys like Lee and Greene who could have big seasons as well if they maintain health.

I think Shanahan will be very intrigued with the situation here.

Funny how in the other thread I continuously mentioned his name and people overlooked him...

I love what hes doing but I think its too early for him to be a HC. This is his first year running a good offense solo.I just don't see him as a HC yet.

He ran a good offense last year in Cleveland prior to Alex Mack's injury

Im good with that. But who is going to run this defense?

He did pretty good with what he had to work with the Browns but the offense was not good, rushing attack was average.

The more I think about it the more I'm warming to the idea of him as HC. He does strike me as one of those "better coordinator than HC" type.

They've been running ZBS for the past two years. Where you been? It was pretty ineffective so they switched to a power scheme this year which I'm sure was influenced by Marrone.

I didn't bash you. I just didn't like him as a OC. IIRC Dirk Koetter was putting up pretty respectable numbers as OC for the Falcons as well. I wonder how much of it is coaching and how much of it is the players?
