All Bortles Haters Come- Stats at Age 23 and INTs

(This post was last modified: 10-19-2015, 03:07 PM by spacecoastjag.)

Let's talk some stats for the Bortles haters.....

I know Jags fans have never had a really good QB so they don't know what one looks like but here goes....

As for your Interception concerns....

Peyton Manning - Age 22- 4.9% passes INT

Blake Bortles-       Age 22- 3.6% passes INT

Peyton Manning Age 23- 2.8% passes INT

Blake Bortles-    Age 23- 2.9% passes INT

Brett Favre- CAREER - 3.3% passes INT

It's called a natural progression for Blake. He makes less mistakes than people think.

Now let's look at what Blake's on pace for this year at Age 23 (probably the 3rd best Age 23 season in NFL history if pace continues after Dan Marino and Matt Stafford).

Blake Bortles (23 age) 34 TD, 18 INT- 4350 yards

Peyton Manning (23) 26 TD, 15 INT- 4135 yards

Andrew Luck (24) 23 TD, 9 INT- 3822 yards

Brett Farve (24) 19 TD, 24 INT- 3303 yards

Joe Montana (24) 15 TD, 9 INT- 1795 yards

Drew Brees (24) 11 TD, 15 INT- 2108 yards

Troy Aikman (24) 11 TD, 18 INT- 2579 yards

I'm not ready to anoint Blake Bortles into the Hall of Fame but I will say the Jags have the most talented QB they had (yes over Mark Brunell- Tom Coughlin was the brains behind that operation).

The Jags have got to get a real head coach in place.

Peyton Manning won in his 2nd year because his defense allowed 20.7 ppg. Bortles defense allows 29.3 ppg. It's impossible to win giving up the worst points per game in the NFL. Gus for being a defensive guru flat out sucks.

Way to ignore the total context of the NFL today and then. Passing stats have been drastically inflated because of rule changes over the last decade. Not to mention that younger players are being introduced to pro style concepts at younger ages than ever before. What do you think this proves exactly?

That you're the most ignorant poster on this board and not a scout.

Andrew Luck is an example up there, no?

So what about the fact that Bortles projects to never win a road game in his NFL career? Or that he will always be one of the leagues most inaccurate passers? I don't understand what you think all this talk about the projection of his stats actually proves, and you won't bother to clearly lay out the argument you're trying to make. I've never pretended to be a scout, but at least I can cite real empirical evidence to back up my claims rather than just make believe stats.

Why don't you go make a list of 23 year olds from recent years and actually have context to your argument?

My argument is simply that it is silly to cite the projection of stats and compare them to an entirely different era of football of actual stats. If you're willing to accept projection of stats, you also have to accept the consequence that Bortles will never win a road game as a starting QB.

I say we wait until the end of the season before we start comparing him to hall of famers. His stats may have a good outlook right now, but he could very easily get injured or just not play as well. Too much time left to make assumptions.

You're argument is always that Bortles sucks.  A list was put together that you call irrelevent because of new age stats.  So put a list together to back up your argument.  Projecting stats and road wins are apples and oranges, sorry [BLEEP] example.

What kind of degree do you have? Clown college? The Jags are #31 out of 32 in opponents PPG in defense. We give up 38 to Jameis. It doesn't matter about wins/losses until we get a real head coach that knows how to coach defense.

Put up a list of players to prove that the rules of the NFL have changed over the past 30 years that allow the game to be more pass happy and offensively oriented? The point about projecting stats is that its a stupid thing to do, you evaluate players on what they have done, not what they might do in the future if everything goes right.

Dude I tried to make this point last year and people went ape crap. Bortles compares to the greatest qbs of all time. He's already better than Joe Namath and Johnny Unitas.

Working on a master's degree currently, but you don't really care. I'm sure you're just trying to be condescending because you didn't see how Bortles' play in the 4th quarter of the Texans game and 2nd half of the Colts game cost the team what should have been wins.

Ok, 6th in passing yards, 5th in passing TDs, no help from the run game, poor protection.  That's what he's done.
