Adams or Allen?

We've pretty much figured out that Adams should be the pick over Hooker in the other thread, but this is a far tougher question. After hearing Mayock talk about Allen possibly being the best pick in the draft over Garrett, I'm having a tough time figuring out who we should pick if Allen and Adams were both on the board at #3... or if we should trade down as someone will want to trade up for Allen.

If you think we should trade down, please specify why along with your potential targets, although I 'd still like to know who you would pick if you didn't care for any of the trades offered.

Assuming his shoulders are okay Allen

if he doesnt check out medically, Solomon Thomas is my next choice. I dont think hes that far off from Allen and his weaknesses are all coachable stuff having to do with technique(not to say he has bad technique but hes not a finished product like Bosa was), physically hes top tier and i think hell prove that at the combine.

Adams comes in 3rd

Trading out would be fine if its a good offer. Im not going to bother making up some sort of scenario but if we move out of range of those 3 guys my next option is by far forrest lamp.

Allen.

We need more pass rushers so if a guy like Allen is healthy and there at #4 you have to take him. Thomas would be the second choice

It could just be my baseball roots, but I am terrified of shoulder injuries more than anything. And Allen has had at least 2 and a rumored 3rd shoulder surgery. Even if he's medically cleared right now, I wouldn't trust that it's going to stay good forever. I'd put him at the bottom of the Adams/Lattimore/Thomas/Hooker/Allen tier.

As long as we don't go RB I'm fine with Allen-Thomas-Adams at 4. I don't include Lattimore only because I think we'll land a top CB in FA.

With JPP and Ingram tagged i'm heading more and more towards Thomas-Allen though, especially Thomas, I think he may have an higher potential and I'm really curious to see his combine numbers.

But both would be a good fit here.

Adams would be my third choice at the moment, I really like him but I don't want to start the season with Fowler only as a DE (opposite of Ngakoue) so Allen-Thomas become a bit more of a priority for me, right now.

We'll see after FA.

Just depends on health for me.  I'd prioritize an elite pass-rusher over a safety, but if Allen's health is a question mark then I'd take Adams, Thomas, or Fournette.

Doesn't Fournette have some sort of health issue as well?

I didn't see a ton of Alabama games this year or last but just something about Allens highlights, and I know highlights, just don't seem to impress me for a number four pick. I am warming up to Adams but at number 4 not sure. I do like the idea of a running back if we could possibly trade down if not I am even okay at 4 for an elite running back which I think both cook and fournette could be. As long as we can beef up the offense of line in free agency and or the draft. I never really did understand them devaluing the running back position as he touches the ball the second most compared to the quarterback and well the center too. It just seems like an elite running back could add more than a safety. Just my opinion. If I was excited about one of the top defensive linemen outside of Garrett it would be a different story.

Bottom line is we are going to get a pretty darn good player there.

Maybe.  Not sure how serious it is or what treatment is required.

With a shortage in FA for DE I think we will end up picking Johnathan Allen or Solomon Thomas/Derek Barnett with a trade down. Or 4th overall.
