What is the problem with this team after halftime?
|
It's starting to become a pattern. Great play in the first half, then fall flat in the second, particularly on offense.
Bortles looked amazing in the first half, but fell off after halftime. Again. Why? I'm not discouraged by what I've seen in Blake. His first half shows what he can do, the kind of QB he can be. But there has to be adjustments. What adjustments do you think the coaches and Blake could make to continue his success in the second half of the game? Your very question is the exact reason why I'm finally starting to question the ability of the coaching staff. It has been a trend, especially of the past two years. Games in which they're competitive, or at least "hanging in there," throughout the first half. Then the third quarter comes? Yeah, nothing. It truly seems as if no adjustments are being made or somehow every team in the league has the exact answer for adjusting to us in a way of complete domination.
There's an ice-cream party at half time. Bradley is real big on the " Ice-Cream Philosophy. "
You just have to do your job, not well or good, just do it. Oh, and guys, get better while you're at it! I don't really know how you're going to get better, but try to! "Now lets go out there and compete man! That's what it's all about man! Let's not change anything up, its been working great man... Keep it tight on THREE! ONE, TWO, THREE! KEEP IT TIGHT!" -Halftime with the Jaycksonville Jaygwires
This is the same thread as the half time adjustments thread. Coaching staff doesn't trust the young and inexperienced players. That put in a basic plan and stick with it. With this plan of action they are counting on execution to keep the game close. Today they were almost rewarded for it.
The reality is the opposing team has telemetry and overhead shots of the plays. When the defense comes off the field they analyze and match up what the Jags offense is doing compared to their game plan. In this way they proceed to "take away" what was working. Not really rocket science but I'm sure all of the news conferences this week will be more of the same. Execution drum beat and winnable game rah rah.

There is a common misconception on half-time adjustments that you take what went wrong in the first half and adjust on the fly.
You just do not have the time, and our players are way too young to make those changes in the 15 minutes at halftime, when you have to get to the locker room, check injuries, often re-tape some players, and then talk about adjustments. Half time adjustments are fully done BEFORE the game. They are a preparation in which the team's staff looks at what that team does in different situations, to learn their tendencies and reactions. This way you can make an good educated guess as to what the other team will change to or try to focus on in the second half. Example is how the Patriots coaches spent part of the offseason watching tape on the Jaguars (and I'm sure Olsen at San Diego) to prepare for a game 6 months away that most people would have expected them to win without putting in that preparation. This also requires preparing your team to be able to do that. That has been a huge issue for this team the past 4-5 years. The roster turnover by Caldwell combined with the innumerable injuries. Not just the long term ones, but even looking certain players for a 1-2 weeks and putting someone in a new position/role. The players coming in always seem really young, as in it is their 1st-3rd season or something. They are not used to the foundations of the schemes, much less nuances. They do not react to things because they honestly have never seen them before. Essentially this all comes back to preparation. Also this team is just too young with a 1st time GM, 1st time head coach, 1st DC, and really young players across board. That is not a "we need to give them time to grow up". That is a "they need more experience on this team." You only get that experience though by drafting well and keeping players or winning in free agency, and Caldwell HATES free agency. Besides Blake Bortles morphing into Chad Henne mentally and mechanically? Not sure.
Answer.......DAILY DOUBLE!!!
Who is GUS BRADLEY? Correct! Pick again... Who is on the hot seat for 500, Alex
Gus calls terrible plays in the second half.

Quote:It's starting to become a pattern. Great play in the first half, then fall flat in the second, particularly on offense. I am seriously starting to wonder if WR Justin Blackmon comes at half time to share his special brownies and milk with the rest of the team. This is all Head Coach Gus Bradley's fault for three years the team has been worse in the 2nd half, for three years the team is the worst at getting INTs. His Defense is good at stopping the run and forcing fumbles but teams for years are able to throw all over the Jaguars at will. We show less advertisements to registered users. Does anybody know the stats of how many 2nd half points we have scored under Bradley's tutelage?
Quote:Gus calls terrible plays in the second half. No he doesn't. He actually doesn't call any plays. He just don't adjust after halftime. He's that coach on waterboy that hides.

Quote:No he doesn't. He actually doesn't call any plays. No [BLEEP]. You mean the assistant coaches, who many here want to replace Bradley, are responsible for this [BLEEP]? “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

![]() The difference is crazy. If Bortles played in the second half like he does in the first he'd be one of the best QBs in the league. This has to be coaching. There are no offensive adjustment being made to match the opposing team's defense adjustments. Once they take away the initial game plan the offense falls off a cliff. No player just falls off a cliff every single game after the first half ends. It would be different if it were just an aberration or happened in 2 out of the 4 games, then we could just chalk it up to young QB inconsistencies. But it's happened in every single game this season. "A man with no sauce is lost.
<p style="text-align:center;">But that same man can get lost in the sauce."
Quote:Besides Blake Bortles morphing into Chad Henne mentally and mechanically? Not sure. What are you talking about? Blake Bortles threw some perfect passes that were dropped. You can't blame drops on the quarterback. Yesterday he did not turn the ball over. I don't understand where you get the idea Bortles plays like Henne in the second half. |
