I know how long ago Blaine was traded, and i personally was ecstatic when I heard the news. I've found myself looking at old jags highlights on YouTube (2011-2013) And I was recalling on how dirty this organization did Garrard. Sure he didn't live up to his massive contract, and he had issues staying healthy, but i think they truly realized what a mistake they made by going for Gabbert instead of sticking with David.

 

Back to the point though, I'm thrilled that we can start an NFL season with someone like Bortles, where you don't have to worry about him getting scared and flinching in the pocket, or just straight falling down, checking off every throw, etc. Even if he ends up being mediocre, its nowhere near as painful as watching Blaine.

 

So how glad are you that we gave up on Blaine before his Rookie contract even ran out?

History does not seem to recall Garrard being an option that year.  He was terrible in the preseason and ended up having a back injury that was likely season ending.  He never played another game in the NFL, right?  Am I hallucinating this?   How was he the better option?  We had Luke McCown and a dream.  Then Luke McCown dropped a 2014 Henne way more Henne than even Henne can do it.  We were doomed no matter what.  There was no right option that year at QB.

Do we have to continually see the false premise touted that the team would have been better off not axing Garrard? They made a mistake in HOW they let him go, but the actual decision was smart business. It was not long after that I believe he went down for the season with a back injury. He tried to come back after, but his last meaningful time on the field was in a Jags uniform.

If we still had Gabbert I'd have to visit this famous Jaguars landmark. RIP to the ones that weren't strong enough to wait out the Gabbert era.

The organization didn't do Garrard "dirty."  He was a disappointment, and he was hurt.  They made the decision to move on because the determination had been made that they had his replacement on the roster, and they could get the same level of output from the journeyman they'd brought in to be his backup.  Turns out they were wrong on both assumptions, but they weren't wrong about Garrard.  He never played another snap in the league, so keeping him here would have done nothing but eat up more cap space. 

 

Regarding Gabbert, I'm not sure why some here feel the need to pick at that scab.  He's been gone for a while now, and teh team is better for it.  Nothing about that is going to change as time goes by.

Pretty much agree, but his termination was pretty classless. They introduced him at a luncheon as the starting QB and then fired him less than 2 hours later.

I agree that it was, but it definitely shone a light on just how ham handed and socially inept the Front Office was. Was it a good choice? I agree that it was. Was it poorly handled? A drunken monkey with Asperger's could have handled that situation more deftly.
