There are 20 active kickers in the NFL with a better career FG% than Scobee.  Many of whom who have not spent their entire career in a city with great weather like Jax.  Maybe the organization wanted to roll the dice and find a kicker who would at least be middle of the pack.  I'm not sure why Scobee has attained an almost immortal status with the fans here.

Since that point I've often had the opportunity to compare him to kickers leaguewide, and in most years he'd rank just inside the top 10. That said, he's tapered off the last couple years as he's clearly on his down slope. This is his 12th season kicking in this league. Most would have retired by now, although Scobee still has leg left and next year should command a long-term contract worth as much as $5 mil per.

He had some bad years in the middle of his career as well that dont help. He career seems to be in spurts.  A few good years followed by a few bad years.  Last season was below average but arguably his 3 best years were from 2011-2013.  He was lights out.  So was last year the anomaly?  And he will continue to be really good?  Or was last year a sign that he is going through another lull?  

 

Will be interesting to see how he does now that he'll be in Pittsburgh.  A traditionally tough place to kick.  I wouldnt be surprised if he struggled.  Especially if the concern about him not getting the ball up quickly enough is legitimate.

It was a legitimate issue with his longer misses as of late, although when talking about Scobee after the trade, Gus said that Scobee had effectively corrected that issue.
