It was really obivious to see that it was going to occur, but I hope he remains clean / sober and is successful in life.

Quote:Well, it is unusual to release a player at this point if the intention is to have him competing for a spot...unless that player happens to be in the league substance abuse program, and the team has some indication that he might be popped with another suspension.
I dunno could be that they wanted him to have a better chance of landing with another team this season but knew he wasnt as good as the others on the roster.

Exactly so 31 other teams saw less value than an inexpensive 4th round draft pick. League minimum cost when you can keep 90 players on your roster for the next month doesn't bode well for Ace. IMO he will only get picked up after injury to ST return player during season if even then.

Someone will sign him to a futures contract in January if nothing else. It'll be on him to prove it from there.

You do that for proven veterans on the back end of their careers to give them an opportunity to continue playing.  Not what is done for guys who were on the roster bubble because they hadn't really proven themselves after 2 years in the league.  They weren't doing him any favors.  They were improving the roster.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Probably means we're leaning to more usage of 2 TE formations. Want to make it easier for Bortles, we need to be able to pound the rock and sell play action. Given Ace's size, I highly doubt he brought anything in terms of runblocking, and he never delivered as a returner. Oh well. Need Joeckel/Cyp to step up this season. Is it bad that McCray (last one taken) is our best player from the 2013 draft so far? Gratz and DRob should be serviceable depth

Looks like Corey Grant/Drob beat out Ace for return specialists. Lots of good receivers on the list. Looks we had a "full house" of receivers, with Aces "high".

If Cyp plays better with better talent (we hope) at FS.

And Luke plays better now fully healthy and bulkier.

Having 2-3 good to great players, with 2-3 back ups isn't a bad draft.

You'd like round 1 to always be a stud... but no one gets it right all the time. And I'd say even with some over exaggerated criticism Luke was a better pick than most in round one.

(I know we could have had Richardson... hindsight is lovely...)

No one from 2013 really stands out. Except a few picks here and there. It isn't like the draft was loaded and we whiffed.

The GM Dave Caldwell said the team might have five running backs with no full backs on the roster for 2015.

T.J. Yeldon, Denard Robinson, Toby Gerhart, Storm Johnson, and Bernard Pierce make up the five he is referring to or do they?

He (Dave Caldwell) stated that shoelace duties are kickoff returns and most likely wont get a lot of plays at RB with Yeldon taking a bulk of the carries this year.  I think Corey Grant will knock one of the five guys off of the list with Storm or Bernard being the most likely cut since I think they plan on using Toby as an H-back rotoworld compares it to Mike Tolbert FB Panthers kind of role.   He was good at blocking for AP in Minnesota in a similar role.

Yeldon being the obvious starter but I think Grant will be the change of pace back with D-Rob as the back up.  In some articles it claims that the Jaguars might only have four running backs.

If that is the case I would assume Yeldon, Grant, Gerhart, D-Rob in that order.

That will allow them to have more tight ends on the roster.

Quote:That's what we need.  An overpriced has been who is either a concussion risk, or just old and  ineffective so that they can give our young guys advice.

I'm pretty sure if the young receivers need advice, they've got a coach who probably knows more about the position than any veteran sitting on the street hoping some team will take a flyer on him.  Jerry Sullivan negates the need to have some guy who may or may not be a mentor.  Most of our younger receivers now have a season under their belt, and they all got plenty of time on the field to adjust to the speed of the game, and to learn how to identify and deal with coverages.  Neither of the veterans you mentioned would be even remotely appealing, and to be honest, there's nobody out there on the waiver wire who would be worth pursuing.  Our receivers are  young, but they're better than what we have available right now in free agency.

Didn't Sullivan come out and say that this would be his last year in the NFL? I just faintly recall this, but may be wrong.

I'm confident Grant will knock Storm or Pierce right off the roster because speed kills in this league, and that's something the Jaguars offense is in desperate need of. Listening to DRob talking about himself vs Grant as the two fastest players on the team, it had me wondering if maybe both should be used in more roles where speed is needed such as Gunner, Split-End WR, KR and possibly even DB.

Grant is Robinson's primary competition for the KR job and they did try Denard at Gunner a few times last year.  He tended to over-run the play.

I see the news for the time of Sanders release. I think it is the mistake he will do good with the new team. Does the new team take him the colts?

DRob has all the tools to be the starter. I think he will push Yeldon

DRob's speed makes him a great change of pace back for Yeldon. Let Yeldon wear down the defense a bit to extend long drives, and then when the opportunity arises
(say they spot a defensive weakness)
, throw in DRob and watch him take it to the house. Yeldon has those moves where you end up seeing linebackers eating dirt, but he doesn't have DRob's breakout speed. If you had both in one player you'd have FT.
