OLine difference maker ?

#1

This offseason we've brought in new players (Wisniewski, Cann and Parnell), we've got a new OLine coach and we've moved on from the Zone Blocking experiment.

Which one will be the most significant change by the end of the season ?

It's going to be a combination of all of the above, but I think the coaching will be the most critical as the line was pretty much without a coach all of last season because of Yarno's health issues.

I think if we have to label it to one, its Wiz. Having knowledge of Olson's system and the veteran experience to help Blake and the OL shifts will be huge. I like Bowanko, but with Wiz we won't have the Blake and Bowanko "idk what's happening" moments

This too. I answered by just players, but Marrone will be the biggest difference at the end of the day

I think Olson brought in Wisniewski to have make the line calls rather than a 2nd yr Bowanko. That should be a huge improvement, even if the difference in the two players' play is marginal.

I think Marrone should be part of the conversation as he will have some big influence preparing a young line.

I have to say Wisniewski will likely have noticeable impact because he knows Olson's system and can help Blake out a bit before the snap with audibles and/or blitz pick-ups.

WIZ because he'll make the o-line adjustments.  Freeing up Bortles to make the other offensive calls.

Bowanko was prone to a few rookie mistakes you wouldn't see from Wiz. Moreover, Wiz is a great fit given his knowledge of the scheme, and I'm expecting him to lead and keep things together across the OL. I haven't seen enough from Parnell to know if he's truly that great of an upgrade from Pazstor who I still like as a run blocker.

That said, I'm hoping the biggest improvement is Joekel. I'm hoping next year we finally see the player we drafted as opposed to just some guy in his uniform. If Joekel improves, I have a feeling Zane Beadles would suddenly look much better.

I think Linder is just going to keep getting better and better. I am interested in seeing Aj Canon take Beadles spot though. Wasn't a fan of Zane to begin with in Denver. I think Manning makes everybody look good that's blocking up front because he gets rid of the football faster than you can blink for the most part.

If this team can field a top 16 oline this year, 8-8 will be attainable imo. I think the most important piece is by far and away Luke Joeckel. The guy was a top 2 pick, and absolutely needs to dramatically improve his game this year, or Blake will get mauled all season again. Joeckel was pretty darn bad last year.

I think this team is going to utilize more dink and dunk passes routes this year to help keep Bortles protected. By using more twin TE sets and split backfields it'll allow Olson and Bortles to work on creating space and plays with his legs.

Players play and Coaches coach. Sure Olsen/Marrone should be better than what we had last year but if the players do not make plays and keep making basic blocking assignment mistakes then the best coaches in the league won't matter. I believe we will be better but not significantly(2-3 more wins)...as long as we are competitive every week and keep scores close on most games we do lose then we will be ok.

Agree.  We rarely get so much attention, especially for a G.  Last time there was this much attention paid to a G from folks outside Jacksonville, it was for Manuwai.

We can hope Cann can bring that kind of presence, too.

Coaches coach, but this group didn't have the benefit of having a coach last season. They had an assistant coach coaching them, and it showed.

Every aspect of the OL should be improved, as the offense is designed from the ground up to protect the QB. So, scheme first of all. Then when you realize all those rookies last year were missing their OL coach, compared to this year when we have a very capable OL coach, there should be a vast improvement in technique and continuity. Now consider the natural improvement most 2nd year players make. Luke Joeckel's strength should be much better, and Bowanko can work on the more mental aspects of the game as he also gets physically stronger. I think Bowanko has the potential to be a real beast with his size and athleticism. But Wiz may be the better option to run Oley's offense initially. Is Parnell a true upgrade at RT? That would be the biggest question in my mind.

One other thing to consider, and it partly goes back to scheme but also to players. Bortles will have more time in the pocket and will make better decisions, and likely better throws with improved mechanics and proper rest for his arm. The running game will be improved, if for no reason than improvement in personnel - the addition of Yeldon, the health of Toby, and the continued maturity of Denard.

I see the potential for VAST improvement compared to last year. If the OL gets in a groove and Gus's defense plays like Seattle, watch out!

Wisniewski the center if he's healthy would be the vegas odds as injured he was still average for NFL starters at that key position where as Parnell was a backup for great blocking dallas team and Cann is an unproven rookie with high hopes from Dave Caldwell and us fans.

It would be in that order listed above with odds, but as to what actually happens we will have to wait and see....

I just know that the line should be much better than last year. Better pass protection and creating decent running lanes will only help.
