From the New Horizons spacecraft, an animated GIF of one rotation of Pluto. Closest approach on July 14th.

So is Pluto a planet or what? Can we get a final ruling on this? Looks planetary to me.

Back in my day, Pluto was a planet. I'm sticking with that.
In that gif, it looks like there's a moon orbiting around Pluto. That's pretty cool We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Back in my day, Pluto was a planet. I'm sticking with that. That's what they taught us, but I think recently they changed it's status to a dwarf planet. "Discovered in 1930, Pluto was long considered our solar system's ninth planet. But after the discovery of similar intriguing worlds deeper in the distant Kuiper Belt, icy Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet. This new class of worlds may offer some of the best evidence about the origins of our solar system." https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/pro...ject=Pluto
Planet / Dwarf Planet?
Pluto is only 2/3 the diameter of our moon, but more than twice the diameter of the largest asteroid, Ceres. Pluto does have several satellites. I think the one shown in the video is Charon. If Pluto is a planet, then so is Eris. Here's a good read on the subject by the guy who discovered Eris. http://www.amazon.com/How-Killed-Pluto-W...0385531109 "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?"
