First off he needs to start. Second, I would like to see him not give up any big plays. Third if he gets 4 sacks, then it was a success... we can aim low and still win because we're already at the bottom of the barrel.

Thank you for stating this.
Can we just talk football...geesh

It's about pressure

7-8
Don't care if he's a rookie. Chris Smith had 3 barely playing.

It's not so much about sacks as a rookie. If he plays full-time and gets three, yeah, that's a concern, but if he's spending most of the game in the opponent's backfield, he's doing ok for himself. I'm expecting him to show a knack for getting to the QB, but not expecting him to look like Bruce Smith. I'm not even going to put a number on it. The tape will be far more telling than the stat line for him this year, especially considering how many LEOs he'll be splitting time with.

I just want to see him become an integral part of an improving defense.

If he has 5 sacks, I'm sure thats a great start to his career. He won't play all the snaps and he will be effective in the run game as well as QB hits, hurries, fumbles...etc He will provide that spark off the edge we need.

I was initially not to thrilled with this selection. Since this morning though I've tried to be more sensible. If we had to go defense I wanted Leonard Williams all the way. If he wasn't there I wanted Amari Cooper on offense. Fowler wasn't even in my thoughts to be honest with you. Wasn't overly impressed with his numbers over the last two years. Gator fans will say he didn't get a lot of sacks because he was doing more than just rushing the passer. But I don't see where that shows up on his stat sheet either.
I think we just overdrafted for a player though that won't be that great but similar to Bruce Irvin out of Seattle. I'll eat my crow if I am wrong. I really will. I have NO PROBLEM admitting if I am wrong. Personally, with the third overall pick. I expect a guy that is consistently getting a minimum of 9.0+ sacks per year. And I think that's fair. That should be the gold standard now for pass rushers in today's overly pass happy leauge. And I dont see that in him yet. If he makes a few splashes with INT's and FF's here and there that's fine too if he can't hit those sack totals. And I also expect this kid to at least make one or two eye opening plays every other week.

Don't care about sacks in the first year. I just want to see if he plays like belongs in the NFL, gets pressures, forces a QB into bad decisions, maybe gets some strip sack/fumbles, or a pick or 2. If he holds up his side of the line, doesn't look mismatched, and doesn't allow huge plays i'd be content in year one.

They take things so personally. He'll get what he gets. The pick is in and done and in the past.

No way, with the 3rd overall I need to see something in the teens. So I will say 13.
At least double diggys

In his rookie year?

I think as long as he plays LEO like Bortles did as a rookie QB, we'll be happy to see what Caldwell saw in him, and expect him to become special.
Regardless of numbers, we'll know it when we see it.

A rookie...
Third overall pick...
Consensus best pass rusher in this draft...
Since he's a rookie I'll be somewhat lenient

At least 5.5, he doesn't have to have 10+ sacks his first year. It's not all just about the sacks. He is great in stopping the run and disrupting the pocket as well. If you're expecting 10+ sacks the first year you're being delirious. This is a long rebuild. And we know Gus Bradley and Todd Wash will turn Dante Fowler Jr into a monster.

Quote:He needs to break the sack record for him to be considered great value at the number 3 pick.
I seriously hope you're being sarcastic.

Gonna need to see him break Strahan's single season record. Otherwise, I will report Dave to the FBI.

Quote:No specific number from me. I'd be happy if he has impact on the game like Khalil Mack (who only had 4 sacks last year). Heck Watt in his first year only had 5.5 sacks.
You do realize that only two rookies in the history of the NFL have had sacks in the teens in their rookie season, right?
Thank you... So many people saying he must have 10+ sacks... As a ROOKIE.
People need to take 10 minutes and look at what all their favorite pass rushers did in their rookie year and get a reality check.
To me he needs to have a few solo sacks, have some pressures, maybe show he can drop back if need be. I really just want to see that the effort that he plays with makes the same impact in the nfl as it did in college.

6 or 7 sacks. But if he's as good as he's being projected, he will get a crap ton of pressures and tackles for loss.
