Quote:Well if we're going into fantasy land you have to realize that simply owning explosives such as rockets, bombs, mortars requires very specific storing conditions or they become unstable. So on that grounds ANY community could say sure you have the right to own those weapons but you can't keep them in your home or business as it would endanger the lives of your neighbors.

So now where down to a hypothetical individual that lives outside of any community in the middle of the woods that could possible own a rocket, bomb, mortars or various explosive. Now if we look past the cost of acquiring such materials and the reality they to don't want to be blown up so yes the cost of properly storing the materials and explosive hypothetically yes they can own these weapons.

As for Tanks and Jets not even in fantasy land is there any suggestion the public has the right to military vehicles. However if someone purchases one and has it stored on their private property I don't have a problem with it, but it's not a constitutionally protected right in my mind.
I'm not arguing over the right or wrong just discussing the application of the right is all. If a community could deny explosives could they also deny guns or bows/arrows or w/e? I'm confused weather you are saying it's ok to deny these rights as you see them at the community level or just people would be shunned or w/e.
Quote:293 people died in Northern Ireland as a result of UK police actions?

I've seen a number that's at least 10 fold higher than that.  Where did you get that number?  Google "Northern Ireland Troubles" and you'll see multiple sites claiming more than 3,500 deaths.

Many of those numbers were caused by Paramilitary groups.  Not British or Irish security forces.  In fact only 10% of the dead were caused by British and Irish security forces (368) which is a bit higher than my original number, but still a far cry from 3500.

Explosives are different my gun can't level a few houses because it's stored wrong, an explosive can level a few blocks if it's unstable so it stands to reason communities could say we won't let you build a home here if your going to house an explosive.

Also intent comes into play the right to bear arms is written with the intent of self defense it would be impossible to argue explosives are stored with the intent of self defense.

As for individual communities choosing to forbid weapons including guns they hold that right, private companies post no firearm signs all the time and that's within their rights. Same could go for any private entity it's when a public entity Attempts to restrict ownership you cross the line constitutionally. For example if you bought 100 acres and said I'm going to build my own city and make it a gun free city you'd be within your rights so long as you remained the private owner of the city. But if you sold me a piece of land to put a home you can't restrict me from keeping a gun in my house.

Actually HOA's can require you not to keep a firearm in your home.

(I Just looked this up, was curious about it.)

That's because you have to sign partial ownership correct? don't HOA own partial rights to your property when you sign one?

I just can't ever imagine being apart of a hoa I chalk it up to one of the crazy things rich people do.

It's not just for rich people.  My cousin is far from rich.  And her neighborhood is a part of an HOA.  Most new houses are part of an HOA, and to move into the neighborhood you have to agree to their rules.  She and her husband had to move because he couldn't find work elsewhere.

Yea I know it was just a generalization I made, I know people that are not rich and in HOA, I just call them crazy. In fairness they think me butchering my own chickens is a little crazy. Perhaps we're both a little right?

It is crazy because now you don't get those sweet, sweet eggs!

Great, now I'm hungry with no butchering tools in sight. I hope you are happy.

I think this article shows awareness is changing perspective.

Sorry my friend.  Until you wring a chickens neck with your bare hands, pluck it and gut it you are still a city boy.  ;-)

When we are all tailgating together next year at the Super Bowl pregame festivities for our Jags remind again to not eat your chicken

Some of city boys simply have more sophisticated tastes. Tongue

As an aside, even after spending over 25 years in jax, I've found the best of several "southern" dishes out here in Portland including fried chicken, catfish and barbeque.
