Quote:Duhhhh!
Fowler has been compared to Justin Houston multiple times by multiple respected draft analysts but how dumb are they?!
Ryan Davis is the obvious one!
Seriously though I really don't understand the Fowler hate. People are just disregarding FACTS when it comes to Fowler and Beasley. You would think Fowler would be close to going undradted if you listen to the folks around here.
do you know the meaning of the word "fact"?
Compare the measurables. Ryan Davis is basically the spitting image of Dante Fowler, in terms of height, weight, speed, agility, etc.
Yes, Fowler played much better competition... we get that.
But Davis has had himself a nice little year in 2014 as a pass rusher. We'll see how long it takes Fowler to get 6.5 sacks in a year.
And btw, nationally - most people have never even heard of Ryan Davis - hence nobody will compare Fowler to him.
I do think Fowler will be better - but I think if comparing him to Justin Houston is fair, it's more than fair to also compare him to Ryan Davis.
maybe:
floor: Ryan Davis
ceiling: Justin Houston

He can't have more than one comparison? Yes, Houston is a fair comparison as well. Ryan Davis would probably be the comparison more fans on a Jaguars board can relate to though, especially considering he would be best fit to play Davis' role and we don't have a Justin Houston role in this defense.
Quote:Fowler doesn't have the production that people want to see because he was moved all over the field at Florida. They never gave him a position and said, play here and just rush the QB, like we would ask. They moved him all over the field and expected different things at every position.
He rushed the QB plenty.

At this point I really think you're trolling….
You've still yet to show anything that would leave anyone to believe your statements of Fowler being the better rusher of the two
By the way, just for the record, I don't hate Dante Fowler. I am actually a Gators fan. I just don't see him as better than Beasley in any way and I don't see him in that elite pass rusher category at the very top of a draft. I view him more as a mid to late first rounder like he was originally projected to go all throughout this season. He didn't shoot up to #3 worthy until after the season ended.

When it comes to the point about rushing the passer it is a matter of opinion.
When it comes to the matter about versatility, ability to set the edge, ability to shed blockers then that is a fact that Fowler is better than Beasley at. No draft analyst will ever dispute that except for the people on this board.
"____ is a terrific athlete who fits in a 3-4 defense as an outside linebacker or in a 4-3 as an edge pass rusher. ____ posted impressive pro day workout numbers including a 33 inch vertical, a 40 time of 4.75 and 9 feet 9 in the board jump. He also ended up with 21 reps in the bench press. ____ possesses many strengths including pass rushing skills, he is also very strong at the point of attack, gets off the line fast, very versatile, coachable and supports the pass and run very well. If you are looking for a gem in this draft remember the name _____. His athleticism could allow him to play 3-4 outside linebacker or line up at the defensive end position as he is not just a one fit system prospect. He has a nice frame at 6’3/259 and is loaded with upside. He has a great motor and always plays to the whistle, sheds blocks well"

Who does that describe almost perfectly in this year's draft? Dante Fowler.
That is a write-up of Ryan Davis leading up to the 2012 NFL draft, lol

But the FACTS say something else...
Once again the bolded makes no difference in regards to the Leo...

That is not a fact. What fact makes Fowler more versatile? Fowler can set an edge - whoopdedoo, so can Beasley. Fowler was asked to 2 gap more often than Beasley? Hurray for not knowing if Beasley can or can not do that effectively since he didn't do a whole lot of it.
I can easily make an argument that Beasley would be more versatile because he has the agility and acceleration to play in space that Fowler doesn't have.
I would ask the pro-Fowler-at-3 guys:
what is he elite at? As in, what's his single best attribute?
His pass rushing? His run support? His coverage?
Where does he excel? And I'm being serious here.
I see a guy that's decent at a lot of things but not great at anything.

I'm in your boat. I too am a Gator fan and my friends eyes bug out of their head when I tell them I would easily prefer Beasley to Fowler. Even I think he should go higher than you do, though. I think he should go 5 to the Skins or 8 to the Falcons.

He is a Gator…and he is from the SEC
Beasley isn't and he wasn't SEC material...
And that is the general consensus on Fowler, even by experts. He's labeled the classic jack of all trades, master of none. His biggest strength depends on your preference. For me, it is his pure motor and passion. While he may not excel at most stuff, his non-stop never say never motor is something you have to love. He will never give up on a play.
I like Fowler because he has no weakness. He may not excel at any one thing, but he does everything so well, that he could do well at multiple positions.

I would take those attributes in a 3rd round or later prospect...
Alualu has passion and motor but isn't elite in any one thing either...

and to me, that screams "late 1st round prospect" or even later.
There's a lot of guys that have high motors out there that just physically (or technically) can't cut it.
I'm not saying Fowler won't cut it, but to be drafted at #3, you have to have something that makes you dominant or that sets you apart.

So you wouldnt of took Khalil Mack untill the 3rd round last year?
Khalil Mack is also a jack of all trades and master of none and just won rookie defensive player of the year. Im sure the Raiders are more than happy with that pick
Quote:So you wouldnt of took Khalil Mack untill the 3rd round last year?
Khalil Mack was dominant in almost everything in college.
He is way faster, stronger, and more explosive than Fowler.
Bad comparison. The only thing you can compare those 2 with is that they are versatile.

Mack was more like a jack of all trades and also master of all trades. Not a fair comparison.

That comparison came directly from NFL.com.
