Quote:Blue collar, get your helmet and hit someone..

don't they all do that?
Quote:don't they all do that?
Nope..

Its more or less a state of mind.. Some players do what they're told and nothing more, and that's ok.. And then you have guys who want to put in that extra work. More time in the film room, more reps in the weight room, more, more and more.. Those are lunch pail guys..
Quote:Nope..

who are these guys not getting their helmet?  brian cushing?  ok.  one guy dumb enough to play without one and bust his forehead.
Quote:Who cares about the money?  The thing is to get the right players.  Gus and Dave know what they're looking for.  Looks like the Jags are targeting lunch pail guys who love the game.  They are certainly creating competition and depth at positions of need.

Agree.

And that's the thing.  Either you're in the game and overpaying, or you're not in the FA market.

Overpaying is a given, so what's important is that you get what you need if you're playing.
Quote:Skuta was a middle. There was a big article on him learning to transfer to olb. He wasnt born into it or have some gift for it. If anything he looks physically like a middle than Foster. So Skuta can learn otto but Foster cannot? Thats bunk.
Skuta played multiple positions including offense. He had his most success playing olb last year. That is the position earned his contact and that is the position he will primarily play here.

Well you proved my point. You are correct he did play multiple positions, and so could Foster and probably better.  Look at Skuta's body and he is an old school MLB. The same as Poz. So if Skuta could move outside, how can you say Foster is just a Middle and only good for backing up Poz? Foster is faster than Skuta, and just plain better if you look at their play. He could play the Greg, the Will, the Sam, The Leo, the Lionel, the Marsha and the Brady. A damn linebacker is a linebacker, he can play or he can't. Skuta is a classic example of a guy who has played it all, and isn't great at any of them.Foster would have been a better signing. With that, goodnight.

your so wrong its funny

that's like saying cyp could be a free safety in our scheme because a safety is a damn safety

the Otto has a very set skillset and is essentially what khalil mack does for Oakland

he drops to form a five man front and primarily has to be strong working at the line of scrimmage in run defense. foster doesn't have any history or experience of doing that skuta does

he also has to be able to work standing up or with a hand down as a pass rusher in order to disrupt blocking assignments on 3rd down . 5 men at the line which 4 will rush especially when guys like branch and Davis have the speed to drop back and cover. foster also doesn't have that ability

I agree they paid him a lot and personally I think too much but thats because he has a skillset they wanted and it sounds like other teams did too which foster doesn't have

We've seen Jags over the years that prefer to play patty-cake with players running into the end zone instead of making any sort of real contact.
Patty cake or get high hurdled: take your pick.  Still trying to figure out how we went from the days of DD almost decapitating people to Reggie Nelson playing slap hands, to Prosinski getting hurdled.

The difference is Skula actually did play the a pass rushing OLB and had success while Foster only has in your imagination.

Sorry, but teams don't pick up players based on imaginary qualifications.
Quote:It's amazing how many people are upset that the Jags have made one big signing and a bunch of mid-tier guys. It's almost like they've forgotten how real-life free agency works.

You think Davon House is a mid-teir guy? He was one of the best cornerbacks available.

I think people are mad that we have to overpay everyone to get them to come here.
5 pages on Skuta --- WOW !!!

Most attention this dude got since announcing (from his HS) that he was going to Grand Valley State.

Yup.....Remember it well.

Local Daytime AM radio station broke in on Midday Show  "Focus on Pork" to announce he had signed letter of intent.

HeadSlap
I think there was some sticker shock for some people with what Skuta and Parnell got. But look at what JT Thomas is getting from the Giants. Or someone like Clint Boling from Cincinnati got. Salaries are on the rise.

Another bum signing followed by the ritual droolfest as the lemming crew commemorates their favorite past time; mediocrity.
For teams without a franchise QB in a huge contract, they should be spending to upgrade talent.

Gene's philosophy was more about trying to get a good deal than finding real talent.  He thought getting a $4m talent for $3.5m was better than getting a $7m talent for $8m.

.... sometimes you need to pay more to improve.

I'd hate to be your dog..
