Quote:Andre Branch is bad. The difference is that you would see me in other threads discussing other topics. You on the other hand only showed up to talk obsess about Alualu. It was weird.
It's still weird. And it's still going. Go figure.

And why do people call moderately good players bad? Does it happen in other sports besides the NFL?
Quote:7 pages over some mediocre backup De. The Dead season is upon us.
8 page now over a backup DE that at best is nothing more than a depth/rotational player.
He is 53rd in Pft's top 100 free agents ahead of Cecil Shorts.

PFT must be Jaguars homers.
*words that will never be used together in a sentence for $500 Alex*

And Knighton is #20.
It's a very weak FA class after the top 10 or so, most of whom will be franchised or re-signed. I still think it's a shame we didn't sign Andre Smith two years ago.

Lol not as weird as your obsession with TMD. Sorry he was banned, I imagine your poor lil heart is shattered.
Still waiting for these threads I've hijacked to talk about Alualu.
Oh wait... That's right... You have no idea what you're talking about.
Alualu!? Did someone say Alualu!?
He's a hard working DT whom is a very nice gentleman. The problem is that he was drafted way too early (shouldnt even have gone in the 1st or 2nd round) but he's been an average DT / DE good at stopping the run, he's just not lived up to the hype of where he was drafted which had more to do with Gene Smith.
I expect that he will take a huge pay cut or be cut.

This is how most people feel, but there are a few here that want to continue to say how people think Alualu is a starting DT and should be paid well, when none of its true
Tyson Alualu is a good backup in that he can come in to backup Big Red Bryant or Roy Miller / Marks when they get tired, but I doubt he'll make as much as he has going fwd.
He looked pretty decent in the Manuwai tape, low center of gravity, and good upper body strength to toss Vince out of the way once locked up.
Not saying he is good, but the guy is not a pushover, nor a fat slob that cannot get off a block like Knighton is. In sum, he is a decent rotational run stopper who can periodically get some push into the backfield.
For the right price, he is still a keeper in my opinion.
Every team needs guys like Alualu, it just depends on the salary ramifications.

That doesn't really bode well for him returning or for Caldwell if he really thinks he's worth keeping. Is Alualu this offseason's equivalent to what Henne was last offseason when Caldwell was mysteriously desperate to keep him from entering free agency and ended up badly overpaying for the services of one of the league's worst players?
For starters, Henne isn't the league's 'worst player'; in fact, Henne actually is regarded as one of the better backups. I do get your vibe though comparing Alualu to Henne. I guess I would tend to agree that there are some similarities, except Alualu was drafted rather high, so there is that. Otherwise... yeah, they've both proven to be just bodies to fill a position when needed.
Can be replaced pretty easily, just a good rotation guy.
I think the problem with Alualu was that he was brought in to be more of a pass rusher up the middle, when he is much better at being a run-stopper. I think the way Bradley utilizes him now is probably the max you can expect out of him. I think Gene Smith thought he could be a pass rusher and that is why he took him early, when really he could have and should have gotten him in a later round. Right now, he is being utilized better as a rotation run-stopper and edge setter behind Red Bryant.
He is a quality run-stopper and decent depth option, but most people don't want him due to his ties to Gene Smith and the round in which he was picked. If you can look past this, you won't find a better replacement for the pay especially.

Exactly. He's a quality large body who knows the system, knows his role, and didn't miss a game on his entire first contract.
I have no problem with Alualu. The problem I have is Leonard Williams may not be as good as Alualu. Well, let's see who we get in FA. I still lean toward a LB or Kevin White in the draft. Or trade down and buy another year for Dave and Gus.

We don't know who the FA class is yet. LOTS of cuts coming.
Lol this dude isn't even a Jaguar anymore, why do yall even care?
He's gone. Bye Felicia.
Every team needs some decent rotational players. Its not like hes a strength, but for his role he just doesnt need to be a huge weakness. He is bad for a top 10 pick. He is not a horrible player though.
