Quote:The bigger question I have: How on earth did they think that approach would work in the first place? That's common sense.

Maybe they subscribe to the "Rome wasn't built in a day" mentality.
The Bills players seemed to like Hackett over Marrone. By all reports he's very personable, optimistic, and energetic.

I wouldn't say he has extensive coaching experience, but I think it will work in your favor that he's gained some experience working with EJ Manuel for 2 years. As long as he's not calling the plays, I don't see a problem with this hire.

So get rookie project managers to manage rookie carpenters? Brilliant

It says he turned down a 2nd interview for OC with the Rams. Maybe it says something about what coaches think about Blake Bortles.

How is that not the least bit concerning to you? Sure they admitted their mistake, but it was a mistake nonetheless, and an illogical one at that. Caldwell acknowledged they made a mistake going too young with the roster too. Was it nice of him to acknowledge it? Sure, but that doesn't take away from the damage that was already done. That's the problem when you don't have a "win now" mentallity. You get complacent. I think we are clearly beyond that now, or Gus wouldn't have made the coordinator change. This was a bit of a panic move I think, the seat is certainly a bit warm. Prisco summarized the situation perfectly on the radio today.

A few other tidbits..... people are saying "Gus wouldn't hire his replacement" in response to Marrone. Maybe not conciously, but who is to say that Marrone himself didn't have that in mind when taking the job. I also remember Ryan O mentioning a week ago that he heard Khan played a big part of the Marrone hire. This suggests it wasn't all Gus's choice.

was it ever made clear whats happening to scelfo?

I'm not saying its a good or a bad thing, but that maybe they looked at it as a process and realized that there may be better candidates available down the road than what was available to a rookie HC coming to a talent depleted Jacksonville team.

Thats what I was still wondering.
As a QB coach I like the hire.  He's one more solid offensive mind to pick and help mold the offense/Bortles.

This is how year ONE should have been. Hiring a bunch of rookies and nobodies to coach up a bunch of rookies was completely [BLEEP].

I'll admit that was a big mistake. I'll also say it may take two seasons for this new system to completely gel.

And that's the thing.... Idk that Bradley gets 2 more years.

The good news is that the other hires were clearly OK'd with Marrone (no coincidence the o-line coach was hired first. That doesnt happen, ever). Marrone and Hackett clearly have a good relationship, and Marrone must be OK with olsen. Therefore, even if Gus were to be canned, the staff would likely remain in tact offensively in 2016 (Good for Bortles).

There was clearly some foresight here, and it's clearly a contingency plan. Caldwell clearly didnt want to risk bortles' development, so he set up a viable fall back plan should something happen to gus. Makes SOOOO much sense now.
Olson.  Two O's, people. Two O's.

Greg Elsen?

Grog Elson. Two O's.

That really depends on whether there is arguable progress this year.  If they get 6 wins though, I bet you he gets another year.  They'll point to the progress and say with another year in the new system, things will get better, etc etc.

From everything I've seen/read/heard over the past few months that is the sentiment I gather as well. Barring a complete meltdown in the first half of this upcoming season, GB seat is as cold as ice.

Stop being silly.

Criticism is futile because it puts a person on the defensive and

usually makes him strive to justify himself. Criticism is dangerous,

because it wounds a person's precious pride, hurts his sense of

importance, and arouses resentment - Unknown

"I consider my ability to arouse enthusiasm among my people," said

Schwab, "the greatest asset I possess, and the way to develop the

best that is in a person is by appreciation and encouragement.

"There is nothing else that so kills the ambitions of a person as

criticisms from superiors. I never criticize any-one. I believe in giving

a person incentive to work. So I am anxious to praise but loath to

find fault. If I like anything, I am hearty in my approbation and lavish

in my praise. " - Schwab

"If there is any one secret of

success, it lies in the ability to get the other person's point of view

and see things from that person's angle as well as from your own." - Henry Ford

The number one rule is to never critize, Condem or complain.

The 2nd is to make a person want to do the thing you are requesting rather than simply demanding it.

The way you acheive that is to tend to their basic need of self importance.

You dont simply ask for what you want, but rather all the benefits of (what you want) and a simple path on how to obtain those great things.

That is why Pete Carroll is a great leader, and why Gus Bradley follows in his footsteps with leadership style (Cheerleading as some haters will state it).

Its getting the most out of the people under you by postive remarks instead of negative orders.
