Quote:I think they are chanting it as a retort to the SEC fanatics with their SEC chant. SEC always thinks they are step ahead of everyone (and they probably have good reason to think so given how dominant the SEC has been as far as winning the last how many CFB titles), but to me, it is still idiotic to be triumphantly cheering for rival schools (or teams) just because they play in your division or conference.

THEIR team had success...not YOUR team, so why cheer?
Not at all. It was a we are better then SEC. Beating chests and proclaiming that this weekend proves it.

First thing I got coming into work this morning was two chest beating ACC fans. One an NC St, another an FSU fan.
Quote:Of course she claimed that. They've lied throughout the whole process, so why not lie again?

Well of course we should accept that the school is telling the truth....they couldn't possibly have anything to gain from lying, now would they?
On the other hand, the SEC's reputation has enabled multiple teams to be highly ranked even after beating each other. The top ACC teams also don't have many out-of-conference losses. Counting those with 4 losses total or less, the ACC has one OOC loss (Clemson to UGA) and the SEC has two (UGA to GT and Missouri to Indiana). But because of the SEC's reputation their top teams are more highly rated than the ACC's top teams despite also having some losses to the bottom part of the conference and only other losses being to top teams in conference.

So it totally makes sense to me to root for ACC teams when they're not playing FSU. (Though I will NEVER root for Miami)

If it bothers your fan base so much that some SEC fans have done it, then the best way to get back at them is to do what annoys them?  Thats perfect logic right there.

We'll talk trash to them all year about it, but when our team actually beats them in a game we'll do it.  That'll show 'em!

Hey they got one weekend to thump their chest after years of listening to all the SEC homers celebrate the domination of two teams (Bama/Auburn). And even then what do you hear from SEC homers?

Oh you only beat up on the bottom feeders of SEC or hey you only beat SEC East...as if they qualify it as such when GA/UF/SC were winning.

That's not reason at all. Just a simple excuse as to why fans of an ACC school did what they did Saturday night to this point,.

Contrapasso, eye for an eye, dose of their own medicine...ever heard of these things?

You're deflecting.....
Quote:Why are you even in this discussion? You're a Knight. What FSU/UF does should be irrelevant to you.

And by the way, yeah it is a thing.

I can't discuss why I think ACC fans feel inferior to the SEC?

Sure I've heard of those things, but it makes you and the conference you root for hypocrites as well.  You can't say SEC fans are dumb for rooting for a whole conference and then do it when you win a game against the conference.  You were proud to win the game and proud for your conference.  Don't say its to mock the SEC when we know its not true.

Excuses....you're all good at them.
Quote:I talked to a guy I used to work with back in Jacksonville last year before the BCS Championship game. He's a big time Alabama fan and he told me he was rooting for Auburn against FSU because he wanted to "keep it in the SEC." You'll never catch me rooting for Miami if they make it to a national championship game (luckily we shouldn't have to worry about that for a long time).

keeping it in the SEC also is a show that its the best conference in the ncaa. so if you are a fan of other teams that didnt make it, you can at least take a little solace in knowing that we didnt make it to the championship but we faced the best competition.

The whole country was pulling for FSU in that game because they wanted to up end the SEC....it was the same thing as SEC fans rooting to keep it in conference, just on a bigger scale.

Somehow I'm thinking the whole country will be SEC fans this year in the same situation.

I actually don't have an allegiance to ACC or SEC. If anything I'm partial to both FSU/UCF as those are the colleges I've attended. But I can't say I'm a fan of either team, at least not like I am a Jaguar fan (which is why I edited my post lol).

Seriously, you don't think just about every fanbase does this? Use whatever chant/motto/cheer that the other teams use to get back at them?

I've heard fans of other teams mock "Move the chains" when they are beating us at home. I've heard Jaguar fans mock Saints fans with their "who dat" chant when we used to beat them at home. Same with the Bengals stupid "who dey" chant. I've heard some fans do the "incomplete" chant at home when we played the Broncos.

It's typical sports/fan behavior.

Aaaand...this is the exact thing I was referring to. Why do SECers take solace being the loser while not only someone in their conf, but a bitter rival at that, has won?

Did you cheer for the Steelers during the old AFC Central days? The Titans in the Super Bowl against the Rams because it proves that the only team to beat the Jaguars that year is the champion? Heck nah. I HATED the Titans that year and would have never caught alive cheering for them.

It's stupid.

college and the pro game are totally different.
As explained above, because the number of teams requires that playoff and bowl placements be subjective it is to your teams benefit if your conference is strong, (or perceived as strong). In the NFL where the playoff spots are assigned by completely objective criteria, there is rarely any benefit to your division-mates doing well. The only exception is the strength of schedule and strength of victory tiebreakers which are applied once in a blue moon.

You fail to read what is being posted regarding this. You are stuck on one thing, and won't be budget, this is obvious.

Don't come on here asking why, and then not read valid responses if you are choosing to believe your original point regardless.

He has already ignored 6-8 great points. But Speedy is stuck on what he wants to believe.
Surely when confronted with logic by both UF and FSU fans he'll faint from shock and come to our side.

Sure some fans do it to mock others, but you dont think deep down they were doing it because they beat an SEC team and they were really showing their conference pride?  I feel like its pretty obvious that they were extremely happy with themselves for beating an SEC team.
