Hearing that the assistant coaches in Jaguars who have not yet been let go will be meeting with Tom Coughlin before final decisions made

Quote:Had issues with Barber who he finally coached to hold the ball different and was better later in his career and also David Wilson their 1st round pick RB who was benced because of fumbling issues
When TC was being mentioned as the HC, I had to laugh so hard at the thought of him watching Blake chuck the ball and throw INTs and Chris Ivory put the ball on the ground. You want to see TC red? Put those two players in the same backfield.
Quote:I would love a LF or Cam Robinson pick

Cam Robinson .............................................???
Quote:You are absolutely right in that speculation regarding what may or may not happen in March, April and beyond is premature, especially considering the general unfamiliarity with Marrone's personnel philosophies/requirements, Coughlin's and Caldwell's ability to identify the proper players to fit within Marrone's schemes, and TC's willingness to adapt his own philosophy to Marrone's and vice versa. But let's face it...I've been spectacularly wrong on player procurement posts many times before, and short of not posting at all, I'll be wrong again. But based upon what little I DO know at this point (and mostly it's TC), I'd say there is a little basis for my speculation.

Honestly, as NY said this is all very premature and we are also forgetting one other thing: Shad and Dave believe this team is ready to compete NOW. This isn't an expansion franchise that Tom's picking up and building to his mold. The foundation exists already on defense: Malik, Jalen, Telvin, Yannick, Myles, Fowler, Gipson, and even Poz (until he's unseated by someone). There's depth in guys like Colvin, Senn, Roy, and Day.

The same applies even moreso in the offense, where the skill positions have talent albeit questions at QB and OL.

I think, if we're looking at TC's history (and perhaps even combined that with Dave's history)...the only thing we can likely be sure of, is that our #4 pick will be a NEEDS pick.

Tom has been, historically, a NEEDS drafter in the 1st round. Whatever we determine our biggest need is, if there is a player that is remotely even within the range of that pick...that's probably it.
I think Tom will have a big part in changing the helmets back to all black

TC had a first row seat watching a QB throw more INTs than Bortles has so far and that QB has 2x Super Bowl championships on his resume.

TC watched Eli throw 17, 18, 20 (won the SB that year), 10, 14, 25, 16 (won the SB that year),15, 27, 14 and 14 INTs while under TC as the HC. That's not counting the 9 INT (in 7 games) he threw in his rookie season.

Bortles has thrown for 17, 18 and 16 INTs in his first three years.

You're really grasping and trying to dig up the wrong tree if you're using INTs as some reason why Coughlin wouldn't like Bortles.

Oh I haven't forgotten that Shad and Dave believe the team is ready to compete now. In fact nothing I've offered contradicts that idea at all. If the team decides to go Fournette, Robinson, or Allen, it will be with the idea of competing to win now.

Yes, TC historically has been a needs drafter. Nothing I've said really contradicts that, either. Any of those selections fit a need on this team.

I think that is one of the reasons they chose Marrone.

Put me down for it. The equipment guys will have to learn to paint the whole thing again.

It was more so a comment on the "build" type (such as big RBs, light DE, etc). With so much unknown regarding what Doug, Hackett, Wash (if these two are even the coordinators) wants to do, its difficult to project what "build" we'd like.

No matter what TC likes, I would hope he gives the HC the freedom to build the team as the HC sees fit.

FSU is a magnet for witch hunts huh
I think Coughlin will trade for Eli, bring in Plaxico off the streets, bring Strahan out of retirement and off the screen and then call up Tiki Barber. This will definitely happen.

I think the Michael Lombardi comment about the Jags FO thinking they were the Patriots or something alludes to DC having too much control maybe and not fitting players with scheme.

Maybe now TC is there to make sure everything fits right for what he sees and Marrone/Wash needs.

Maybe. I really don't know. I don't follow that stuff much.

I tend to watch more college football in the offseason checking out individual player's cut-ups than I do during the actual season -- and I don't follow all of the programs' soap opera stuff. I tend to change the channel when all the college "he said-she said" segment comes on.

That is fair and accurate.

As to the part in bold, I hope TC values Caldwell's input and respects Marrone's wishes as it comes to personnel needs, and doesn't try to fit square pegs into round holes.

I suspect that was one of the reasons Marrone left Buffalo. Supposedly he was vehemently opposed to the trade up to land Sammy Watkins.

I'm told Tom Coughlin has blocked Doug Marrone from hiring Donnie Henderson 2 @Jaguars coaching staff. TC/DH had big blowup at '05 scrimmage

Well, there's one coach who won't be coming here.

I'm told Doug Marrone wants to hire @buffalobills ST coach Danny Crossman for @Jaguars staff but hasn't gotten Tom Coughlin's approval yet

I'm told Tom Coughlin wants Doug Marrone to interview at least 3 outside coaches for every @Jaguars staff position member he wants to keep
