I hope we re-sign him. I've only had my Shorts jersey less than a year. Would hate to have a jersey for a player not on the team anymore.

On a more serious note. He's been nothing but productive while on the field. And even with injuries, hasn't really missed a ton of time over his career. I'd like to bring him back. Especially since he's our only real veteran WR. $11 million guaranteed is a reasonable number. And like someone said, if we end up paying the $37.8 it means he's been a beast. When is that ever a problem? We have to spend the money somehow and Bortles has 4+1 before his big payday.
Quote:It tells me that Bortles might be targeting him TOO much ala Garrard/ Jimmy Smith back in the day....lol

That said, I'd keep Shorts around past the trade deadline this year unless another team gives us an offer we can't refuse for Shorts, i.e. a 3rd rounder or higher.

Haha it tells me he's the only guy that is consistently winning his matchup, and is where he's supposed to be.
Quote:We'll know by the offseason (re: Blackmon) though...

Yea I know, and that's why I think the Jaguars aren't in a hurry to get something done now, that a long with CSIII injury history.
Quote:He'll get it and when he's healthy, he deserves it. People are acting as if the guy is a slouch.

I know. First game back from his hammy he gives us a sick fumble...
Let Monroe, D. Smith, and Pot Roast walk but sign a gimp named Shorts at a position where you can find anywhere.

Along with 10 catches and 100+ yards, the fumble was a killer, but he played well overall.

I'd be tougher on Cecil on that if he hadn't come back and make several key 1st downs on that next drive.

He's just gotta be more aware of his surroundings. The Tennessee DB made a nice play there.

The Jaguars went damn near a decade without having competent receivers, let's not act like they're a dime a dozen for this franchise.

I'll give you Monroe and Pot Roast, but Daryl Smith? He played well last year but hasn't played well this year, he's old, let it go.
Quote:It's not as simple as "what is our record with him"? Blake Bortles targeted CSIII a ridiculous 16 times against the Titans, what does that tell you?[/size]
Tells me if it was 15 targets we wouldn't of had a fumble on the Titans side of the field at the end of the game Sunday.

I agree. He did well. It just really made me mad when that happened. He's just not worth that money. He's a solid 2 at best. It's just he's the only veteran is why he MIGHT get something in that ball park.

So the fumble negates the 10 catch 100+ yard performance, everyone fumbles, Andre Johnson cost the Texans a win against the Colts last week with a fumble.

It doesn't to me, and I'm usually one of Cecils harshest critics.

Now, if the fumbles become a trend, then thats a different story.

$11M guaranteed for a #2 is a decent deal.
He won't get more than 3.5 per year IMO. He's not worth more than 4 years - 12mil.  He'll get more than he's worth - but if anyone pays him 5+ mil per year, they are very foolish.

I hope the Jags keep him on at 4 mil per year or less  -- but he'll likely be overpaid by a team that's desperate at the position.

Eric Decker got 5 years and $36 million with $15 million guaranteed.

If Shorts was healthy he'd get something between that and Cooper's contract. Hamstring issues are scary though because they tend to be a recurring problem. A lot also depends on how he finishes the year. Will he stay healthy the rest of the year and produce? Will he be in and out of the lineup?

2nd career fumble.

I just think we'd be making a mistake letting the man walk with so much uncertainty at the position, even if Justin comes back imagine our receiving core. Our base offense would be 4 wide haha, there isn't a lot of money tied up into the receiver position right now anyway, by the time Justin’s and the two rookies contracts are up, CSIII will be at the end of his.

In any event theres NO reason to rush with any deal. I'd wait until the offseason to make ANY decision on a contract extension for Cecil.

And I still maintain that if another team gave us a trade offer in the next 2 weeks, that we couldn't refuse for Cecil, like a 2nd or 3rd rounder, I'd take it.
