Quote:I don't have a real good feeling about Hurns.

I hope I'm wrong but the guy just seems 50/50 on whether he'll catch the ball. Some of the balls he does catch he doesn't catch very 'clean'.

I think Hurns is thinking too much out there lately rather than just playing instinctively and having fun like he was in the Eagles game and prior in the pre season.

I think the Washington drop as well as a few other drops are in his head. He's gotta just forget that and move on.

Quote:Jimmy retired in 05 and David wasn't the starting QB till 07.

Your Jags knowledge is lacking. Garrard started in 04 briefly and also played in 6 games in 2005. Jimmy didn't retire until after the 2005 season.

We'll see. I don't remember him catching one of the TDs very 'cleanly'. I hope he pans out. There was obviously something that all 32 teams saw that kept him from being drafted.

It was a ridiculously deep draft for WR this year.

In any other draft Hurns goes by the 6th round, minimum. IMO, anyway.

I also disagree with the claim about the TD's all being bobbled.

I think he was referring to when Del Rio dumped manwich.
No, my Jaguars knowledge ISNT lacking. Garrard started ONE game his rookie year, TWO games in 04 and FIVE in 05. In the four years their careers overlapped, he threw 298 passes and completed 168 of them. But im sure you charted every pass he threw in those years and determined an inordinate amount went towards one receiver?

reading comprehension much? I said he played in 6 games in 05, not started 6. Leftwich got hurt early in game 11 and Garrard played most of it. Then he went on to start the next 5.
And yet...you dodge the question. If you "reading comprehensioned", you'd notice the edit to start vice play. Did you watch every throw and chart where he threw it?

Yawn,....ask any rational Jags fan who watched that era......they'll agree that Garrard locked on Jimmy Smith all the time. It was pretty much a running joke around here it was that apparent.
Right. Rational Jags fans such as yourself? Great way to deflect the question. I watched that era. I've watched every "era" the Jags have had. I've watched every era both here, in Japan, Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan, and every other corner of the globe....have you?

Better yet....the rational Jags fans on here that are agreeing with you now?
Just pay the man, we need to make sure Blake has enough support around him, front load the guaranteed money in his contract whilst we have loads of cap, after 2 years when we potentially could look at freeing some up he'll be cheap to cut.

Hell if we sign him and cut him 2 games in next year we won't even notice in cap.
Man, Cecil Shorte is good. He is the most productive receiver we've had since Jimmy Smith and he had 10 catches for over 100 yards in his first game back. STILL the best receiver we have right now, even though I think Allen Robinson will quickly take over that role. We are all given him crap because he gets injured. It's frustrating, but he has been pretty good. We are in a good position at wide out so I would be hurt if we let him walk but I can't bash him.

I didn't mean to infer all, if that's how you read it. I guess I should have said at least one of those TDs was not a clean catch.
Quote:I wonder if he even wants to resign here

It's about the money mostly and he finally got a QB to throw him the ball.  I'm pretty sure he'll want to be here if the contract offer is what he expects.
Quote:What did shorts look like his rookie season? They have already surpassed him, and they have huge potential that we all never thought shorts had.

He really stunk sometimes. I remember him getting booed during team introduction.

2 receptions with one TD. Fair caught a lot of punts instead of letting them go into the EZ for touchbacks. He looked like the game was moving WAY to fast for him.

That's what happens when you go from D3 to the NFL.. Its alot faster... He's got it now long as he stays healthy!

I tend to agree with this assessment. I don't see Shorts as a #1 wideout, and apparently the Jaguars share that opinion in their drafting of Lee and Robinson. I do see him as a nice complementary option, but I would personally want an out in the contract in case of injury. Something like this:

Yr. 1: $6M signing bonus, $3M salary

Yr. 2: $2M roster bonus, $8M salary

Yrs. 3 and 4: same as yr. 2.

It gives him a little more than the hypothetical $37M over four years, but the Jaguars get an out after each year should the injuries mount or his play decline. It may still not be enough to keep him around, but I'd be really surprised to see all $11M of his hypothetical guaranteed money given as a signing bonus by any team after the struggles he's had staying on the field.

This season very well could play into the teams hand regarding Shorts. We may be able to re-sign him cheaply on a 1 or 2 year prove it deal, while the younger guys ascend. I have no doubt Shorts' talent level is worth a contract like Hakeem Nicks got this year.
What's wrong with the contract though? This is what solid number two guys get paid. You have to change with the time of the increasing salary cap. This is a normal contract for a solid productive guy. If he was a number one then he would get a Calvin Johnson 100 million dollar contract.
