Quote:The guy wasn't worth the 33rd pick in the draft.

I said that when the pick was made.

Caldwell has generally been good, but the Gratz and Cyprien selections were bad.

You're right, I wouldn't have picked him any earlier than the 34th pick. It's all about value
Quote:Cyp is the least of our worries on defense.

There might be some truth to that. However, still not worthy of a 33rd overall pick. Not even close.
Delanie Walker is one of the best TE's in football. Covering him is a tall order for any SS in the league.

Cyprien's definitely worthy of his selection.

Quote:Cyprien didn't play well yesterday. Cyprien is an okay player but far from worthy of a 33rd overall pick.

You can get a player with his skill set/ ability in the 3rd day of the draft.

Definitely not with his ability.  He has 1st round ability easily.  Big, strong, fast, and a thumper.  He was definitely worth #33.

LOL....okay.

We'll just have to agree to disagree here.

He was not great in coverage yesterday. He's played well every other game he's been in this year. Maybe it was a coincidence but the defense fell apart after he was injured in Philly.

You can't call him a bad player so you'll just continue to cut and paste this ridiculous, well he wasn't worth the 33rd pick junk.

I think in the Philly game in particular, that indeed was somewhat of a coincidence. We kind of shell shocked the Eagles in that game early. I think they still would have made that comeback Cyprien or no Cyprien.

I can agree with that somewhat. Everyone agreed it is a tough position to learn your first year and everybody expected leaps and bounds from him this year.
He's actually really good in run support. He made a couple good plays in the run game yesterday. Pass defense, not so much.

Like I said, I was hoping he would make the next step in the passing game but he hasn't. He's just a guy until proven otherwise.

Start Telvin Smith and have him play man on the TE

Sounds like Donovin Darius, who IMO also was overdrafted.

Both good players in run support. Both liabilities in the passing game.

That = an incomplete defensive player. Those can be found in the 4th round and later.

Heh, I'd try it at this point. What do we have to lose??

They can be, but you can also find a player with none of it. Cyprien is still worth keeping and still worth starting, especially if you can find a good free safety that'll allow him to play up to that run support skill set

The Jaguars have a long ways until they fix that secondary and it's 100% Caldwell's fault for doing nothing virtually about it for two offseasons, and it'll probably still be bad next year until they give up on this silly Seattle defensive scheme that isn't being implemented properly and he picks up someone -- ANYONE -- that has Alan Ball's ceiling as their floor. /rant
Right after the Cyprien pick? Justin Hunter, Zach Ertz, Darius Slay and Gio Bernard. Also Kiko Alonso and Leveon Bell.

Cyprien is fine.  He hasn't been a liability in coverage.  He's a top tier run stuffer and just average in coverage for a SS.  If he's Donovan Darius, then that's worth a #33 pick.

If this team was a playoff team, he'd make a probowl or two in his career.

I doubt that -  (in answer to the last) unless his all around game becomes better.

I think Darius was also overdrafted (not worth his draft position). Not saying Darius didn't have value. He did. But not 1st round value. Just like Cyp doesn't have pick 33 value.

Cyprien is right around the top 10 in SS's in the league right now.  He'll only rise up that list within the next few years.  That's good value for #33.  On draft night, he was considered a late first or early 2nd prospect, which was also equal value for where we found him.

All this because of what...two bad plays in yesterday's game?

He was such a liability in the San Diego and Pittsburgh games that you could not even come up with one example where he was.
We could have had Gio! Ertz would have been sweet too!

The Jaguars found a tight end on the waiver wire who is putting up similar numbers to Ertz.
