If we got a real FS and allowed him to play the way that best suits him, maybe he would be playing better. Evans is terrible so Cyprien is often having to play in a deep zone and that is just not where he excels.

With the additon of Landon Collins I think the defense would be much better!
Quote:Cyprien had a good game against the Chargers but some of the other games this year not so good.
Colts game: Cyp was blown up twice times by Colt RB's. Once for a touchdown. Not the definition of a thumper in my book.
Titans game: Cyprien had three whiffs on tackles in the first quarter alone yesterday. Cyprein bit way too much on the play action. Lastly, Cyprien misses a tackle yesterday and the ball carrier falls but is not touched. Cyprien looks on as the ball carrier gets up and gains another 8-10 yards. Mental mistakes all day.
At this point, Cyprein is an average SS at best.
Hopefully he will improve.
Quote:The Cyp fan club won't like the above post.
I know you get all hot and bothered when anybody brings up Cyprien but the post you quoted isn't even correct.
He didn't have "three whiffs on tackles in the first quarter alone yesterday".
The two biggest missed tackles in that quarter were both from Blackmon.
And the longest gain that Delanie Walker had yesterday was on a play where either Blackmon or Posluszny blew the coverage.
The two biggest missed tackles on Sankey were Evans and JT Thomas.
The biggest negative play by by Cyprien was on a long gain from Hunter where he did not touch him down and Tennessee got an extra ten yards.
But in the game he also he a big tackle on a 3rd and short and one on McCluster inside the 5 where they held Tennesee to a field goal.

Yeah, he is way better than Arthur Brown (Ray Lewis/ Mike Singletary) and Johnthan Banks up to this point
The post is correct.
I like Cyprien and I think/hope he'll grow to be a good SS for years to come. However, at this point in his career Cyprien is inconsistent from game to game .
Sorry but that is a fact.

He had one bad game this year
A guy in just his second year is inconsistent? NO!!!!!! :teehee:
I see the board is continuing their doses of stupid pills considering Cyprien is our best defensive player.

Titans game: Cyprien had three whiffs on tackles in the first quarter alone yesterday.
Calling you on this. ^ It's not true.
Plays involving Cyprien in the first quarter:
-Ist defensive series: covered the TE on a play when Whitehurst threw it away.
-2nd series: Leaves TE to Hayes (vocalized the switch to Geno first) and picked up the motion receiver and pushed him out of bounds. 6 yard gain. Not a whiff in the slightest. Good recognition if anything.
-Delanie Walker up the sideline. Cyprien got his shoelaces - but Walker tip-toed the chalk for 6 extra yards. One "whiff." (really just a good play call against that coverage. The TE ran behind two WRs essentially setting a
pick on Cyprien.)
1
-There was a screen to L. Washington in this series that you probably think he whiffed on, but was clearly
blocked out of the play by his own teammates. Blackmon and Jones.
Whiff was on W Blackmon.
-On the 25 yard pass to McCluster, Cyprien did his job by covering the slot receiver - he saw the quick 5 yard dump to the RB over the middle and broke to make the play only to be blocked out by the outside receiver. This play was 100% on Geno Hayes who was supposed to pick up the RB (who came up to the line from the backfield pre snap) and was even told to do so by Poz and Clemons at the L.O.S. He slid over - but did not stick him.
-He then made a good stop on Sankey (1 yard gain) - and a good hit short of the goal line on Mc Cluster to help hold to a FG. (5 yd gain)
So there ya go. 1 whiff. Not 3. He was responsible for 6 yards of offense that he could have prevented if he fought through the WR pick a little better.
I think another thing is people don't realize that having a safety with the size, speed, quickness, and range is a rare thing. That's why there are only a few of them, like Chancellor (sp?), in the league. If they were easy to find then everybody would have one. Cyp is only in his second year. He may still develop into something special.
Looking back at that 2013 draft overall he was proly worth a top 15 pick. That draft was trash top to bottom.

You're not "calling" me on anything.
My goodness, I simply pointed out that a second year SS had an average to below average game and some folks just do not like that.
It always amazes me how some fans gravitate to certain players and cannot seem to admit when they struggle.
Once more, Cryprien is an average SS at this point in his career. Hopefully he'll improve.

You made up a story about him missing three tackles in the first quarter and it wasn't true.
There seems to be a large amount of people recently getting upset when their made up stories get called out.
No made up a story about whiffs. Cyprien had the whiffs, that is a fact.
Again, Cyprein is a second year player that is inconsistent. Get over it.

You said he had three whiffs in the first quarter.
He didn't.
It was made up.

I don't think you know what "fact" means.

LOL. I did call you an a blatant false statement. You said he had three whiffs in the first quarter and he only had one.
It's plain to see that he's not having a stellar season - but you exaggerated how bad his first quarter was - so I re-watched the first quarter because I figured you were inaccurate and sure enough you were.
It's no big deal. You exaggerated the facts to make a point. It happens dozens of times in every thread. I was just providing some realistic perspective.
No exaggeration on the whiffs but its ok with me. You see what you see.
I see that this discussion is going nowhere.
I'm over it.
Cyprien is average at best at this point in his career. Hopefully, he'll improve.
Cyprieites enjoy your day.
Cyp isn't much farther ahead than last year. Looked good in the Eagles game until injury. Since then, a couple of good plays but few and far between. Too many whiffs and mental errors. Safety is probably our weakest position on the defense and that's saying something.
Quote:Is it just me or is this guy biting hard on play action way too often? He seems to do pretty well in run support and making plays on short passes around the line. However, most of the times I see a TE running wide open down the middle of the field behind the defense it appears as if its a blown coverage from Cyprien reading run. Maybe its linebackers that are responsible for the TE down the middle. What do you think?
In the 46 defense is often simplified to its main component of walking the strong safety up to the line of scrimmage as an eighth man in the box to help contain the run. Defenses today may also run safety blitzes and corner blitzes at crucial moments without committing wholly to the "46" defense - wikipedia
I am not certain but I think it was most likely the OLB failing coverage on the TE. Cyprien has made a few mistakes but he's having another good year.
