Quote:Why were the Jags competitive the last 2weeks?

A. The opponents were much weaker?  Steelers just got spanked to the browns

or

B. The team really improved?

I'm leaning more toward A

Why can't it be both?

Considering how god awful this team looked earlier in the year, I'm not sure how you can look at the product on the field, regardless of which NFL team was on the other side, and say there hasn't been some improvement. It may not be enough improvement to appease any of us in the grand scheme of things, but there were strides made the past two weeks.
Quote:We're playing against NFL caliber players. If you look at our team, unit by unit, we are better than alot of teams.

What will you say when we beat the clowns this week? I see us winning that game. It's gonna be the break out game for BB5 and the offense.

The defensive line is legit. It's our secondary that stinks. And the way to fix that at this point is just continue to rush the passer on every passing down. No more of this 5 yards off prevent style zone pass coverage.

If Babich can realize that, no way Cleveland drops more than 21 on us. And if we hold them to 21, BB5 will get it done!
You got balls of steel for that prediction.

I predict we get blown out by 3 scores.  The offense will have some success but continue to not put up points while the defense gets torched this week.

30-13 browns.
Quote:What? Please go ahead and enlighten us. At 0-6, I'd be curious to see which units we have that are better than others. We have the worst Oline, a good d-line, below average secondary and a below average LB unit. Our WRs are so young and unproven. Our backfield is below average and although our QB is on the rise, he too is technically below average.
I agree except.

The LB core maybe the worst in the league along with the secondary.

Lets see if you feel this way after we play a decent team.
Quote:Positives pretty much only have to do with Blake. Led an 83 yard drive to get us within 2. Then led us to a potential game winning kick.

Shorts fumble was by far the biggest thing to happen in this game. If he doesn't fumble that ball, we win. At worst we get a field goal out of that drive and then Blake goes 83 yards for the game winning score.

Sacks weren't positive?  Holding their running game to 70 yards wasn't positive?  Giving up only 17 points and 233 yards wasn't positive?  Come on guys, if we are going to criticize at least be fair.

Read my entire post. It looks like you just stopped after my first sentance!

Our WRs are better than alot of teams. Just from the eye test.

Our D line get's alot more pressure than other teams. Statistically and from the eye test. We're 3rd in sacks. We're 14th in rush defense, which is above average.

As for our WRs and our QB... BB5 is averaging 260 per game ONLY counting his 3 starts. That puts us above the squeelers in terms of passing yards per game. The sqeelers and Party Boy average 259.2 yards per game. They are 11th in the league in terms of pass yardage

So there's three 3rd Units that are above the average...

Don't get me wrong, our pass defense is 2nd or 3rd worst in the league.

But if you consider the 3 main things in a game... Rush the opposing QB (Check). Have a good passing game (Check). Defend the Pass (we stink)...

2 our of 3 ain't so shabby...
In all fairness we also stink at running... So we're 2 out of 4 in terms of where we want to be.

Sacks were a positive, but the pressure just isn't consistent. The 17 points really don't paint the entire picture. We were getting carved up in the middle of the field by this guy....

If you consider 230 yards a carving then I don't know what to tell you.
You can tell that the game is starting to slow down for DRob.. If he continues to put the work in, he'll be deadly..

We REALLY need a franchise WR, TE, and RB. A half-arsed defense would be nice too.

Quote:LOL.....

Cleveland dropped 30 on Pittsburgh yesterday and blew them out....the same Pitt team that we couldn't get more than 9 points against the week prior.

Tennessee just beat us yesterday....

Here we go again with thinking playing close/ barely winning vs bad teams is impressive.

Gus has ZERO wins vs a quality opponent in 22 games.

As bad as Mularkey was, he beat a Colts team in 2012 that went to the playoffs that year.

You realize team A can beat team B, team B can beat team C, and then team A can get blown out by Team C? This is the NFL, any given Sunday.

Stop acting like a Donkey.

Exactly.

And he missed one or 2 wide open deep receivers that would have made the 17 to 24 or 31, easily.

LOL the only one of us acting like a donkey is the one citing being close in a game vs Tennessee with Charlie Whitehurst starting as some sort of accomplishment.

I read your whole post which is why i broke down into units.

QB- No. There are a lot of good QBs out there right now. Blake is heading there but hes not there yet.

RB- Not even close

Oline- Worst in the NFL

WR- Young and unproven. So again, how can they be better than a lot of other teams right now? Too many drops

TE- Weak

Dline- Like i said, above average

LB- Terrible

Secondary- way below average.

You said to look at the units.... I did. Take another look. This roster, as this very point in time, is not good. It has loads of potential but as of right now, they are average or below average in just about everything.

Quote:Exactly.

The delusion on this board is astounding.

OL personnel isn't the main problem. Its a bad scheme and bad OL coaching.

The only area where personnel is a big problem on this team is LB and DB (outside of McCray).

But that didn't happen did it? We could also talk about some missed opportunities by our offense as well... But that's not what happened.

If you look at how the CBs adjusted in the second half, you might have a different perspective of our defense... We started playing press coverage and started bringing an extra rusher besides our front four from the 2nd half.

The number of explosive plays by the tacks dropped drastically in the 2nd half.

That's the key for this D moving forward. Blitz early, blitz often and don't let the QB get comfortable.

If the QB gets 2 or 3 seconds, he's gonna find someone wide open... We gotta get pressure constantly, or we're gonna get burned in the secondary.

That's 3 units right there.

Our special teams aren't killing us like they once did... (Turk)

We lack in secondary (pass defense) and in our running game...

We're also out matched in terms of game planning and game management (coaches).

So yes, we have issues. But it's not as though this team is devoid of talent as some may want to believe.

That's all I'm saying.
