I watch Bortles and forget he's a rookie until he makes a typical rookie mistake. As a viewer I trust him with the ball even after he throws a pick because he has that go-getting confidence to overcome his mistakes. If we as fans feel that confidence in Bortles that should say a ton of what his receivers likely think of him. On every snap they have to believe this is the one to break for 6. We never thought that about Henne or Gabbert. The man stands tall in the pocket, is mobile and goes through his reads accordingly. He plays like he's been in the NFL for years instead of a few games. The upside is limitless and no matter what happens this season with our record just be glad the most important position in the NFL has been solved for Jacksonville.

I think he has the ability to be it, he clearly has the physical tools, and mentally he seems the part too, hopefully Fisch doesn't ruin him.

I'm not worried about Fisch "ruining" him, honestly elite QB's don't get ruined by coordinators, they make coordinators look good.

I think Bortles is going to be one of those QB's that when he's hot he's going to be unbeatable, but when he's cold it's turn over city. I'm willing to stomach some games with high turnovers for a guy that's going to be aggressive and attack down field. He just has to limit WHEN the turnovers come, I think as he grows that will be the big difference between now and then.

John Oehser said Blake Bortles can be almost as good as Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees. That may be underrating him because changing the offensive scheme a little bit would make him better.

Hopefully Fisch is only a problem for this season and we see a more experienced or more established coordinator brought in next offseason.

Fisch will be fine if he'll just hand the whole offense to Bortles and stop trying to cherry pick for the rookie by taking out the plays he's not completely comfortable with. I know it's ultimately for the QBs benefit but the guy's shown he's a quick study. Challange him to run with the whole game plan. He'll make mistakes but he's going to anyway. The more he can learn this year, the better.
The great thing about Bortles is he doesn't care what Fisch calls.  If he wants to sling it, or check out of something, he will.  He is not a wussy.  He might have his Brett Favre moments, but I see this guy holding the Jags first Lombardi Trophy.

After suffering through the mediocrity of the Chabbert Henne era, watching Bortles on the field gives me high hopes for what should be years to come.

Agreed.

Not true.

Look at the past 6 quarters of football. Something seems to be holding Bortles back.

Not the same Bortles gunslinger that we saw prior to halftime of the San Diego game - dating all the way back to his first preseason appearance.

The issue is he STOPPED slinging it all over the field.

Just because you throw it 37 attempts means little if 35 of those passes are short [BAD WORD REMOVED].

Bortles needs to get back to being Bortles.

Actually Bortles did suggest "two or three plays" he wants torn out of the playbook. Fisch is letting him do that and will not tighten the rein on Sundays.

When asked about the Ben Roethlisberger comparisons last week, Fisch said, "I just want Blake Bortles to be Blake Bortles."

Either way, he is not Garrard, Goobert, or Henne.  He makes them look like peewee QBs

His natural talent/ ability is way beyond those 3.

Which makes it so frustrating to see them assumingly handcuff him with playcalling over the last 6 quarters of football that makes him look just like Henne, just more mobile.

Its like driving around in a Maserati at 15-20 mph.

When the Maserati has nothing more than bicycle wheels fitted I would be driving at 20mph as well.
Not as elite as Andrew Luck.

If that was true, he would have looked like Gabbert over his preseason as well as 2nd half of Colts/ first half of SD games.... He didn't. At ANY point of that. He was CONSISTENTLY a gunslinger and successful until halftime of the San Diego game.

Bortles is being held back by poor playcalling/ neutering the past 6 Q of football.

If they let Bortles be Bortles the sky is the limit. Could easily be top 5 in NFL.

It's the playcalling.

Against the Eagles, Andrew Luck attempted just one long pass.  Out of 34.  Didn't even attempt more than one.  Bortles against the Steelers DID attempt 3.  1 was caught, 2 weren't.  (that's not counting the pass that was called back for holding)

Call it a small sample size. I don't believe for a second the kid will become check down captain nor that any coordinator would want him to.

I agree its the playcalling.

And the playcalling sucks over the last 6 quarters of football.

Yawn.

Someone has found their new agenda.
I think some of it is the play calling.  Why does it seem for the past 7 years, the QB's dink and dunk most of the time?  Is it the coordinator not trusting personnel, or they think they lack the ability?
