Lol. No matter what Henne does, he couldn't even sniff the success Brady is. What a joke. All these excuses for this guy is getting old. Plain and simple, if he was good the Jags would be WINNING.

Dude it's coming when they announce his name coming on the field..

If Bortles can't beat out Henne now, then we missed on the pick.

Dude no matter what he won't see it. It's a waste of time with some on this board.

The only comparison between Henne and Brady is that they both played at Michigan.

It's really not about being better than Henne. I've been as critical as anyone with Gus and Dave's decision to keep Bortles on the bench but it isn't about him being less talented than Chad.
They feel he has things he needs to develop and work on before they are comfortable putting him on the field. If it was just about him being better than Chad Henne they could have had the Commish announce him as the starter at the same time he announced the pick. He's always been more talented than Henne.

Quote:I think we can agree on that! That being said, I think stubborness to adhere to the statements in the offseason is the only reason Bortles isn't in there.
Coaches lie all the time.
If there's one thing I'm confident in it's that there's a reason Gus would put his own butt on the line to hold Bortles out and possibly stunt his growth, because that's what he's doing.
If he didn't really think there was a good reason for him not to be in the game he'd be in the game no matter what they told checkdown chad before the draft.

He has to play well because the Jags need a home game victory. What have we had... about three wins at home in past 4 yrs. Truly sad.

If he is better than Henne, but still not playing, then all of the talk about playing the best players is a big load of bunk. The real question should be is it better for him to sit on the bench or get snaps in a game. He's not learning squat sitting on the bench. Anything he can learn on the bench during those 3 hours would be far surpassed by him actually playing.

Considering the Jaguars will be 0-4 at that point I would hope so

He has to regain the confidence of the team and assure that starting him was the right decision. I swear the team is in limbo with him out there just going through motions. There is no sense of urgency or that they can accomplish anything. I don't know how the coaches can't feel that same way.

I think we all know about the importance of this coming game and "Chad The Man Henne" has to win this one. Blake is on the clock.

Quote:I don''t share the opinion that Henne has played really poorly. Everyone who follows the NFL knows his limitations and I think he's trying his best with the skills he personally has and the very young players around him.
Very well put. A majority overstate his flaws in their eagerness to see Bortles in there. I understand the eagerness but it's causing their evaluation of the QB to be wildly skewed. Henne will eventually be a good a backup...once the team as a whole is better.

His flaws are most certainly not overstated. Chad Henne is a decent backup. But he's really just not that good. His receivers make a lot of mistakes, but even if they weren't, we wouldn't see much improvement. We've converted just 5 third downs this year. 18% -- lowest in the league. Henne is who he is. A mediocre QB that makes a decent backup. A consummate professional, but not starting-material.

When was the last time Henne played well and the Jags won the game?
I would love to give Henne credit for playing well and winning a game, but it very rarely happens, which is why his record with the Jags is 5-16 and fast approaching you know who at 5-22.
Henne is just way to limited in what he can do to be a whole lot better than what you have seen from him in a Jags uniform.
As NFL QBs go, he is just to inaccurate a passer right now and I don't see how that changes anytime in the future.

They most certainly are overstated at times. He's a pretty average QB not the worst QB of all time. Look at some evaluations and you have to wonder if people are actually watching the games. Probably the worst instance is putting Henne to blame for things like how the OL is playing or how the defense is playing. It's crazy.
A very common saying is people put to much credit to a QB when a team wins and to much blame on a QB when a team loses. We have been losing bad and this saying has been proven out beyond any shadow of a doubt.

He's average for a QB of the 80s or 90s. When 3000 yards and a passer rating in the mid 70s was considered acceptable.
Of course back then he'd be even worse because he wouldn't have a league that emphasizes passing trying to prop up every QB's stats.
For the modern NFL goes he's not average, he's bottom of the league as starting QBs go.
