Quote:Shame Barden dropped that ball on the opening dribe , that was another great accurate throw with real confidence
I thought the ball that was dropped was tipped by the DB.  Was it not?
Quote:I don't think I've ever seen a rookie light it up like that since I started following the NFL. Like it was too easy or something

A+
Agreed, not to mention his oline was collapasing on him on many occasions and his receivers were the 2nd & 3rd stringers at time when most of the 1st stringers were injured so it was a lot of times the bottom of the depth chart WRs which really  helped Hurn shine (thankfully)!
Quote:His preseason really couldn't have been any better
True, I give him an A++ best (at least so far from what I've seen I think he might be the best QB the team has ever had even better than Mark Brunell)!
He's got bad footwork.

The coaching staff has brainwashed me so much that I cannot even watch this dude anymore.  Get him out of here.  His footwork is terrible.  Can't have a QB with bad footwork in this league.  The difference between Henne's footwork and Blakes footwork is miles apart.  I'm not sure if Blake will ever have the footwork that Henne has.  It's a God given talent.  You can't teach that.

Yup, this organization made a huge mistake getting rid of Gabbert.  Bortles is clearly a bum and will never amount to anything.  Wallbash
Henne just has a better understanding of the game and offense...he has "it".  Good try Dave, but we should try to recoup some value and trade B2 before people realize he's got bad footwork.

B for Bortles

Henne has a better understanding of the game .... love that line as well.   I'll give Henne this much, the dude is extremely slightly below average with his stats.  He's averaged a QBR between 72-77 his entire career when he played 10 or more games in a season.  55 TDs, 62 Interceptions.

I give him a solid A as well. The velocity on his throws have increased significantly from his UCF days to now. Whatever the coaches are doing with him, keep doing it. He just needs seasoning and experience to know what he can and can't do in this league.

He tested the defense a few times in the preseason. Fortunately for him, they couldn't capitalize on it (dropped INTs).

Quote:Mettenberger also has had a very good preseason as well, and doesn't seem to be getting the publicity.

Yeah he looked good when I saw him, not sure he has Bortles physical attributes though.
Plus, you can't help but respect Henne.  Here's a guy who is under no illusion of what his role, and impending fate, is on this team. Yet he stands tall, doesn't whine, acts as a good ambassador for the team, and seems to always give his best (but maddeningly inconsistent) effort on the field.  He's a genuinely good guy who would be a pretty damn good QB if he could get his consistency demons under control.

I don't think it was tipped.  When we saw a 50 foot tall version of the replay on the jumbos, it may have been more of a case of the DB getting a hand up there and blocking his sight line at least for a moment.  He still should have caught the ball.
The possible ints don't concern me. Andrew Luck used to do the same thing constantly, still does to some degree. Anyone recall the first few drives in the first game against the colts last year? I think half of his first ten passes bounced off of Jaguars hands or were intercepted.

Interceptions or near interceptions from a young QB because he doesn't recognize a coverage aren't concerning. What is concerning is when he doesn't have accuracy, gets rattled, or doesn't have the confidence in himself to throw it more than 10 yards.

Bortles has all the good qualities that matter.

Agreed.  When you look at the first team line he'll stand behind, he has no illusions about what is expected from him this year.  He's a punching bag that will have to take a beating while the line develops.  Not a peep about it.  He knows he's a placeholder for the position, and that after he's taken his beating, once the line is ready, he'll be sidelined.

He had some good moments. As did Carr and Bridgewater. But none of them were as good in every game as Bortles.
His footwork isn't bad.  That's been overstated a lot.  He hasn't reverted back to the few bad habits he had at UCF.

A+

Play him.

To be fair, he's getting paid around 5 Million dollars and probably wouldn't have an opportunity to start many other places.  Unless he has the illusion that he's way better than he actually is, there's no reason to say anything or have a bad attitude about it.  He'll likely have a career as a backup after he gets benched (whenever that is) and it's hard to complain about that.  I'd gladly take 7 figures to help plan out a game that I loved and be ready to step up if the guy in front of me went down.

His hit is $4 million, but I get your point.  I tend to think Henne does feel he can be a better QB than his career stats may indicated.  I don't think he's fully committed himself to life as a backup.  He's still young enough that he may feel he has an opportunity to land somewhere to compete as a starter.  In the interim, you take what is presented.
A

Id just like to point out the possibility of Henne actually playing well this season. It truely could happen.
