Mmmmm, okay.
Ummm no dip...

Blake will go through his ups and downs.  Any person who knows a little about football wouldn't panic over one bad preseason game, or one bad regular season game.

But, you've been around this board for a while now.  You know the drill.

Very true.
Quote:The people that have prepared all along for him NOT to be "instant starter" will certainly not panic if he happens to not look so good vs Detroit....

However, those other people.... :whistling:
How does this make sense?
Quote:THat was generally Brunell, too. Remember? - Brunell would rack the yards up between the 20's and then get all conservative once in the red zone. I think a lot of that was Coughlin, too, who preferred to run the ball for TD inside the RZ rather than pass it.

Hopefully Bortles will start getting some TD's soon.

I know this will dredge up some bad memories, but there were times where TC would try to get cure inside the 5 and throw the ball, with disastrous results.

In both AFC Championship games the Jaguars were in (1996 v. New England and 1999 v. Tennessee), the Jaguars were inside the five and threw a pass to the back of the end zone.  Both times, the safety read the play and picked off the pass.  It was virtually the identical play.

Back to the main point, I would love to see Bortles throw a TD or 2 against Detroit.

I think as good as he has looked, he has done so with little in the way of passing game contribution from TEs.  Though I know you are no fan of Marcedes, at minimum I think you'll agree he is better than the guys Bortles has played with in the first two preseason games.  I'd like to see him with an over the middle receiving threat.

I look forward to seeing Bortles with Lewis on the field to see if that can help him overcome the TD drought.
Quote:Boldin's oldin, Patto, Lloyd and Crabtree are really nothing special and Stevie Johnson is proving to be a one year wonder.

I wouldn't act like that group is suddenly akin to Monk, Clark and Sanders...
And Shorts is special? I don't know if Shorts is an upgrade over anyone other than Patton. Shorts is good but they definitely don't need him.

Browns might want him since Gordon might be gone for the year. Doesn't matter though. Doubt we are trading him.

Shorts isn't special.  He's just at the top of TMDs list.
as a fan i reserve my right to irrationally panic if he struggles at all.... god forbid he throws a pick if so.... we're doomed... doomed

to be honest I expect him to struggle

he's coming up against a dominant d line with a shaky interior in front of him and I would expect us to struggle in the run game, particularly if we insist on running gerhart to the outside

only good news is i think our wideouts should be good enough to get open in the secondary so hopefully we can get the ball out quickly before the pass rush can get there.

Nah. The list is crowded:

Gratz

Cyprien

Lewis

Shorts

Yarno

Babich

Personally, I'd like to see him struggle, just so we can get a sense for how he responds to adversity.

It's crowded, but Shorts is at the top of the list.

I read all of your posts with a sophisticated English accent.

I don't know man. Personally I think it's a tough call between Shorts and Lewis.

we saw how he responded in college and we've heard about it in practice and semi seen it in games. I don't expect him to respond badly and that's what has me most excited. Plus he is really gonna benefit from Shorts and Lewis playing.

It's definitely Lewis. Hands down.

I don't expect him to respond poorly either, but I want to see how quickly he shakes off mistakes at this level.  Doing it in college or practice is nice, but this is the NFL, and if he's going against the first team defense and he does something like throw a pick, I want to see how he responds when he gets back on the field.

granted it looks like Gratz and Cyprien could be really good and we aren't getting rid of Shorts I could leave Lewis out the door after this year.

Lewis is going to be an integral part of the offense this year.  I'm not sure why people have this determination that he should be sent packing.  If it's his contract, are you writing the check?  If he has a strong year statistically this season, will it silence the critics?  Probably not.
