lol.......

The Republican Party was liberal by every measure during the civil war. They literally fought to force the union to accept a central power over state rights.

Preserve*, but yes. You can't just secede from the union.
Quote:No, it was not "conservatives" that abolished it, it was Republicans who abolished it.   At that time, the Republicans were the liberals and the democrats were the conservatives.
While this is true, it's also true that the democrats have a history of being on the wrong side of issues.

Civil rights in general would never have happened if it was up to democrats who opposed it.

No argument.  Neither political party has a monopoly on wisdom, truth, and good judgment.  My argument was with the assertion that conservatives were responsible for ending slavery, when in fact, the opposite is true.   Conservatives wanted to perpetuate slavery.   Abolitionists were at the other end of the political spectrum from what we would call "conservatives."   Abolitionists were considered radicals, and not what we would call "conservative."

And you are correct, there was a large bloc of conservative democrats who opposed the civil rights movement, along with conservative republicans.   It was moderate and liberal democrats and republicans that pushed civil rights forward.   Conservatives of both parties fought against it.

We all need to give up the idea that "our team" whether it's democrats or republicans or liberals or conservatives, have clean hands when it comes to the judgments of history.   Liberals are not always wrong, conservatives are not always right, and vice versa.  I think we should take each issue on its own merits, and not filter them through our political biases.    There's too much of this "oh, a liberal said that?  It must be wrong." type of thinking.   Same goes for the other side.

National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive "Executive Directive 51" which basically grants the President the ability to essentially act as a dictator in the event of a "National Catastrophe".

And Readiness Exercise 84, or "Rex 84" was designed to allow the Government to suspend the Constitution and detain millions of Americans in the event of a "State of National Emergency".

These are not just conspiracy theories people. This is actually happening right under our noses. Read, Study, and Educate yourselves about these issues.

The list goes on, and on...
Oh, and one last thing I forgot to mention is the National Defense Authorization Act. Which has a provision in it that says that either the Military, or the Government can detain any Americans suspected of being threats to "National Security" without any arrest warrant, or trial.

Notice the pattern of the words: "National Security" and "National Emergency" in any of these unconstitutional, and frankly, illegal laws?
