Oh don't get me wrong, he's definitely an [BLEEP].
Just that I'd still for him if he was good. The same way Chiefs fans cheer for Hill( who beat his pregnant girlfriend up)

I know. He never once said he regretted what he did or he was sorry. He showed no remorse what so ever. He still acts like he was justified and that shows me what kind of person he is.

What would it take for you to not cheer for him? Would you feel the same if he was a former child molester? I just want to know if there was anything he could do to make you not root for him if he was selected by the Jags and turned out to be a star?
It all depends what he shows to Caldwell. If he gets interviewed and comes across as a thug then he's not getting drafted by us.

Yeah being a child molester or a rapist would probably be the line I'd draw.
Just being honest. You know full well you would celebrate if we beat the colts in overtime with a 70 yard TD.

No, I wouldn't. I could guarantee you that. I'm not a typical football fan. I don't put the team over my morals. I want him to fail, wherever he goes. He strikes me as a bad person. Hopefully, we won't draft him, so I don't have to root against one of our own players. So far in our history, I haven't had to do this. We've done a good job of avoiding "bad guys." I'm praying that this continues.

Maybe you, and most of us for that matter, need to work on compartmentalization?
Someone's gonna take him, might as well be us...at the right discount. Oh how it would free us up to fill some other major needs if we could get a guy only a sliver less talented than Cook/Fournette in round 4 instead of pick 4.

Does Coughlin or Caldwell have a record of choosing to pick bad apples in the hopes of turning them around?

I don't think he's nearly as good as you think he is.
Chris Brown is upset about this but hopes Mixon does well at his pro day.
Graham Barfield @GrahamBarfield
Joe Mixon's 6.75 Yards Created/attempt is the best I have in my database. For reference: Zeke (5.98), Fournette (5.83), McCaffrey (5.69).

Graham Barfield @GrahamBarfield
What's even more impressive than Mixon's lofty YC/att, he forced 0.57 missed tackles per rush. The sample average: 0.36. Light-years ahead.

Mixon is also undoubtedly the best inside-zone runner I have ever charted. 7.32 YC/att on inside attempts vs. Zeke's (now) 2nd-best (5.98).
And to be fair:

My lone concern with Mixon's on-field product is he faced a ton of soft fronts. Seven or fewer defenders were in the box on 94% of attempts.

They have chosen to sign veteran players who were cut for off-field reasons. Dave Caldwell has only drafted one player (Telvin Smith) who might have been a bad apple.

Coughlin supposedly was very high on Lawrence Phillips.

Hopefully, he learned a big lesson from that. Phillips did kill his cellmate and commit suicide. The guy was a total headcase.

I remember that during the R. J. Soward aftermath, Coughlin admitted that he felt like he "could coach up anybody" and that was the reason he picked Soward. It's not that Coughlin wasn't concerned about character, but that he felt like he could change it.
I'm not certain if his philosophy has changed over the years, but it would not surprise me if it has. Mixon is going to be a polarizing figure in this Draft, it'll be interesting to watch.
Quote:Yes. If we have to bring in a bunch of "low-lifes" to win, I'll root for another team.
You do know the majority of great teams back in the day. Had major off the field issues right?
And if everyone based on that. Some of the greatest teams would of never existed.

This is pure speculation on my part, but Mixon's incident seems like it will be an isolated incident rather than the first in a pattern. That doesn't excuse what he did, but I don't think whoever drafts him is going to have to worry about repeated violent incidents from Mixon.

i agree with that. the incident does take away from his value no matter what, but how much will the impact be?
he isnt invited to the combine so that should hurt a little bit.
he is an absolute no for me anywhere in the first round. id be ok with him in round 3 though and honestly based on talent he is probably a bottom rd 1/early rd 2 guy.
so the pros and cons need to be considered heavily with him.

Not to mention that Soward was a complete bust and proved Coughlin wrong. I would think his philosophy would have changed after that disaster.
