Quote:I think the general premise and idea are good. It's just the execution and design of the internal aspects that need work.
So, basically you're saying the show isn't good, but the idea is.
Quote:Brutal honesty does work, sometimes.
Rude doesn't equal honest, same as being empathetic does not mean that what is being said is watered down. It's more effective to deliver criticism in a respectful and factual way. Partciularly when being done publicly. Private is a different manner, one on one. But to do it in a public manner doesn't work.
When someone puts their stuff out in the public domain looking for feedback, they're going to get a lot of both.
Personally, I think the idea of a fan show is something that's been tried before, and I've seen better executions than this one. What it would take to fix it? Well, if I was going to be brutally honest, it may not sit well with the OP. But, if I decided to be respectful and factual, I'd say he needs an entirely new cast, a more appealing title, and better quality production.

more or less I think the idea can be good. It has to be executed well though. I would also agree all of those things you mentioned need to be addressed.

So, you really think the show is bad, and everything about it needs to be replaced except the concept.

it's not good but I wouldn't say everything needs to be replaced. They could keep the same cast, change the names and practice like hell. my point about how the criticism was taking place.

Now you're just trying to sound nice. It's okay to be honest.
Quote:this... Working in an academic setting will teach that real quick. I also think it has to do with old school and new school teaching styles.
I would say most settings, but yes, you hit the nail on a biggie. Huge in athletics as well.

Putting stuff out in a public forum isn't an invite to be rude and disrespectful and call it constructive criticism.

Unfortunately, yeah it is. If you don't want the rude and disrespectful criticism, you don't invite it by posting it in an open forum. That's the nature of the beast.
Yep, and to top all of it off, the thread creator has acted rude in the past toward others, so too bad if he gets a little dose of his own medicine here. Yeah, thats blunt, but not unfair, either.
Case in point....had that been D6 making this thread you think people would have been a bit more easier on him? Yep, because he's not once been rude to anyone on here. Thats not the case for ctjags.
And actually, I don't think the people giving the honest feedback really have been that rude. They've merely been honest. He asked for feedback and he got it. If all he wanted was a pep rally, he could have said that too... :whistling:

I guess that is a possibility, but it is not a rule set in stone regarding an online forum.
Thankfully there are still individuals who don't subscribe to that line of thinking. Respectfully addressing questions like this will achieve much more then the way some went about it, there's no question about that. It's a tried and true format from the military down, to big time corporations, to athletics.
I do appreciate the way you have gone about addressing your side of it though, that is for sure. Little easier then others.

I agree anytime you put something out in public your risking that but my point is "You" or anyone else does have a choice in how they criticize something. You can be honest but in a constructive and non discouraging way.

There's no point in trashing the guy, but when you post something to a forum like this, there is always going to be a population that will take that opportunity to break out the claws. It's an inevitability in an environment like this where everyone is anonymous, and more than capable of launching into an attack without a second thought.
There is no point in trashing the guy.. But unfortunately a lot of people do.

Yes, everyone has a choice as to how they go about criticizing someone. Some are more tactful than others. It's just part of the reality on a board like this. If you put something out there, you'd better have thick skin.

No, you are right, that is why I made a post like I did about it not being necessary by some (pointing no fingers). It was just pointless points that were not going to help the OP if he was looking for some helpful hints.
Online forums do tend to bring out some rather disgusting things at times.

You've been on this board long enough to understand that's going to happen regardless.

you have a reputation which isn't gonna help. Yes he could be more tactful but so could you. You have a choice in how you respond to him you know.
